Presser at Gillette Stadium. Guess they're brining up the football to FBS officially.

I realize that it isn't Big East related but UMass came up as a school of choice for some as expansion target.

LOL, they'd be the 2nd. Recall the WAC-16 much?

This probably means Temple is going nowhere.

I am curious to see which Big East teams schedule UMass, and what kind of deals they get.

Somewhat curious to see if BC stops scheduling them since UMass might want a home game, unless they play the schedule at Gillette Stadium.

UMass had the scholarships, a deal with an NFL stadium (Foxboro) and the ability to reach into the Boston market...and a basketball tradition as well.

Apparently, this garnered no interest from the Big East.

I assume that this is because it would have been an 18th mouth to feed. But it did have more items in place than 'Nova does.

The plan is to play most home games at Gillette Stadium in the early going, since we're not going to have a FBS caliber stadium by 2012. The expectation is we'll have to use Gillette to lure in big name opponents anyway.

We're playing UConn in 2012 and have a tentative agreement with Syracuse in 2013, but those were in the works long before the MAC discussions. We'd probably prefer to get out of the Syracuse deal if it hasn't been signed, if only because the guarantee amount is at the FCS rate.

Whats frustrating for me to see is that UMass was far more prepared to join the FBS ranks than Nova ever was. Again wish UMass the best. The Big East needs to be paying attention to how that program does these next few years with their facilities etc. Could be a darkhorse or the main candidate down the road.

But it would be in the EAST and allow the conference to compete in the Boston TV market. Instant rivalry with UConn and PC from days gone by, too.

I agree with this too. UMASS better use this opportunity to get their facilities etc. in order in preparation for a potential BE invite. UMASS to me has a chance to be school for MASS. BC is a private school and they will never get the full attention of the state UMASS can. UMASS is also way more ready than NOVA ever will be.

I'm with you on that. I agree that this dance with 'Nova has been dumb. Maybe it was necessary, but in the end it is making both sides look bad.

UMass-UConn could be one hell of a rivalry in all sports too. Tops in New England that's for sure.

The STATE of Massachusetts IS Boston. *shakes head*

RE: MAC, UMass to hold press conference on 4/20
I do wonder if the UMass press conference/presentation wasn't timed to somewhat undermine Villanova's presentation, but I'm pretty sure that's a coincidence. I doubt we saw the Villanova-Big East meeting fiasco coming. They could have easily beaten us to the punch.

I'm not thinking about the Big East though. The important thing is, we're finally going to get our turn at bat and see what we can do when we swing away. We were damn lucky to be able to get a spot in a FBS conference without having to leave the Atlantic 10 for our other sports. If we make it happen between the sidelines and the end zones, it doesn't matter what conference we're in.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were left in the Patriot League...
