I know people say the BCS affiliation will help. But Nova is in a plush neighborhood with rich fans, and they don't break 10k even for playoffs. But we are supposed to believe that nearly 20k Nova fans are going to come down from their affluent enclaves and drive over the the azz end of Philly to see the Wildcats play Cincinnati and Louisville? And you just know the ticket prices have to go way up, making it even worse.

This is a disaster in the making.

This.

As a UCF fan I don't think that many of the Big East teams would be a massive draw, but I do think that they would help with our attendance a fair amount. Even then though, I don't know if we'd sell out our stadium every game for the first year of Big East inclusion (difference of about 7k fans right now). How does Nova think that they will quadruple their attendance just because they're in another conference? Not to mention, they'll likely be losing their asses off the first few years which hurts no matter what conference you're in.

Juest a guess, as quoted - "in addition to pretty good-size checks coming 'Nova's way from backers of the move-up". I interpret this to mean that some schools want Nova to move up and they will therefore; "foot the bill" in order for this happen.

I've been thinking about this very thing. To me, the basketball schools stand to lose much more in a split than the football schools. The football schools may have to give up the Big East name and surely, the bball tourney in MSG, but would have the nucleus to form a very good all sports league with a lucrative TV contract.

The basketball schools will lose a TREMENDOUS chunk of their basketball dominance. Seven of the top nine this year were football schools. Many have said here that they'd be relegated to A-10 status.

If what the author is suggesting is true, and that without NOVA joining the football side, that the "breakup of the league could be accelerated" would it be financially beneficial for basketball members to pony up some cash to aid NOVA in their quest for full membership? Should the league stick together through another TV contract cycle, they would most likely gross more per year than their current 2 million in TV revenues. But, is such a large investment worth it; especially for what seems to be a short-term fix? Would the net result be better than what they perceive a TV contract would be per school as a basketball-only conference?

If this is the case, the Big East should put a stop to it. That'd be no different than the Football teams paying Nova not to move up and it does nothing but actually hurt the conference as a whole. Honestly, I'd be hardpressed to believe they wouldn't do that.

I like that idea.

The BE football schools could take some money out of the regular football revenue stream and give it to Villanova, in the name of "helping them to enhance their football facilities in preparation for joining the Big East," or whatever name they want to give it, and in exchange Villanova agrees that they will not apply to join Big East football for at least 10 years.

Villanova can do whatever they want with the money, who cares, as long as the "Villanova football issue" gets punted deep into the future.

I guess having reasonable Big East leadership which realizes that Nova brings nothing to the table but more national ridicule is out of the question and now they've got to resort to bribes?

I think your first comment has merit...as some have noted that certain Big East AD's would have voted NO last week if Nova said they had a 60,000 seat to play in....knowing full well that Nova, at this time, does not have the necessary BCS Football Budgets to be successful in the long-run, on and OFF the field.

However, considering this has always been a basketball conf FIRST, having a 18,000 seat soccer stand and expanding it to just 30,000...might be enough for some to agree to move up a very, very, small program (actually a SMALL Div I-AA program...as 49 other Div I-AA schools had more fan support than Nova).
