Some have wondered why Steve hasn't had
some good opportunities to leave. We have heard he's turned down some offers. I feel that if we were to get to the tournament again this year, and particularly if we won a game, he would be getting some interest in some openings. He's still releatively young, and has certainly had some success, although not in tournaments until this year. I hope we have good enough seasons where he would get some good offers. He's a good guy and deserves the opportunity to move up if he chooses.01-lauramac2

We wouldn't necessarily hear about the ones he didn't consider.

I feel certain Jeff knows about some of them, but I understand why he wouldn't want to put that out there. I just hope Steve's career here continues to thrive, whether or not he get's other offers or not, which undoubtedly he will if he wins enough.

It appears to me that some midmajor coaches are finally learning that "the grass isn't always greener". Porter learned the hard way, although he was lucky enough to get another chance.

There is an article about that on ESPN today, I think.

Who has offered him? I don't recall reading about any.

There were none to read about. As I understand it, there was no publicity about it. I have no idea who the schools might have been. If that's correct information, then he must believe he has a better deal here at UALR.

Schools and coaches try to keep this quiet, unless the coach is simply using it for leverage to get a raise. Not hard to keep things quiet about UALR since the media doesn't give a hoot about us anyway. I guarantee Miami didn't want it to come out publicly that they were turned down by a coach from Harvard. But in a media market as big as Miami it will come out. The Shaka Smart and NCState flirtation was not going to avoid hitting the media, with Shaka being "The hot Coach" and NCState being an ACC school. I have no idea if Steve has been contacted about other jobs. No reason to believe we would have heard about it if he has.

Then how do you know that he had the offers? I wouldn't think that a coach who hadn't had more success than he's had here, would be a hot prospect for anything bigger or better than what we have here. He's damn lucky he's got this job. Had he not finally found the acorn this year, he might not have this one now.
