An ECU fan trying to be funny. FAIL! I guess you missed last season where every game but one was a sell out and it was within 1k.

BTW: Houston is a city. In fact it's a very large city. It's not a town. I know that's confusing, but that's one reason UH is being considered. We actually have a large city which makes for a large TV market.

And we have something called a real football stadium, filled with 50k real ECU football fans every week. When was the last time there were 50k Houston fans at any football game (notice I emphasized Houston fans so you don't try to pull a Rice and count UT fans as your own)?

Besides the Texas Bowl against TCU, the last time UH played in front of 50K in Houston was 1981 against #5 UT in the Astrodome. 52K plus.

It's a formality because those are the statutory exceptions to the open meeting requirement. Those are the provisions you cite in Texas when you want to go behind closed doors.

The UH BOR needed to talk about something in private TODAY. Something that could not wait until the mid-May meeting.

executive sessions generally deal with personnel matters

is some bigwig getting ready to be hired or fired?

RE: Secret UH Board Meeting today
The Big East has consulted with Paul Tagliabue about starting a Big East network. They most certainly sought his opinion re: the TV value of all the expansion candidates.

Likewise, I'm sure the Big East in its negotiations with ESPN has determined which expansion candidates, if any, add the most value to the TV contact.

So, if East Carolina or Memphis or UCF or Houston or Temple comes out smelling like a rose after all that study and gets a Big East bid, so be it.

Whatever direction the Big East goes, we'll all know that the schools left out were weighed and measured but found wanting.

Today, the UH BOR called a special meeting. This is unusual in and of itself.

What's more unusual is that, as a state school, UH BOR meetings are supposed to be public. There are several statutory exceptions to the public meeting rule, like meeting with attorneys.

Today's agenda invoked several of these statutory exceptions. In essence, the UH BOR is meeting in secret today.

While they can deliberate in secret, they cannot vote in secret. So no votes will be taken today. But clearly, something is being discussed that the UH BOR does not want disclosed at the moment.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the Big East. Maybe it's a coincidence. Just thought it was interesting nonetheless.

I really hope this meeting is about BE membership and not about cutting programs. You know, Texas has a budget crisis just like all the other states. If the UH truck driving academy were to be shut down then interstate shipping could be severely affected. 03-lmfao

Just kidding, Coogs!

Respectfully disagree. Nothing has shown me that the Big East uses any type of logic and has a very poor understanding of the nature of college football. I wouldn't automatically assume that they have done their homework.

Woohoo! Another anti-UH post from notJeff. Do you ever bring up negative posts about other schools when you just "post the facts"? Do you every bring up anything positive about UH when you just "post the facts"?

Of course not.

Capped tuition raises to 7% for undergrads and 9% for grads.

Glad I have already completed my Masters.
