What now?
So I keep hearing these snippets of how things are supposed to move forward but does anyone really know how the Big East moves forward?
Nova is saying the ball is in the Big East's court. The Big East says they have concerns and will get back to Nova, but Nova has to resolve everything by May 31st.
So I hear there are May Big East meetings coming up, is that when all of this is done? Does Pitt and Rutgers get on the phone to Providence and say what they need to change their vote and then Providence relays this to Nova?
The plan forward all seems very vague at best.

RE: What now?
My best hypothesis:
1. Villanova gets on the phone to the PPL people, tout suite. They negotiate a long-term plan with them to expand the stadium.
2. Villanova presents this to the Big East who tells them they can join, BUT not to start the moving-up process this year; wait until next year and use the extra time to develop the fan base, aquire funding, build the program for when they join in 2015.
3. Nova promises to do their damndest to outbid Temple for LFF in 2017 so the Big East doesn't have suffer from having a team playing in a 30,000 seat stadium for too long.
4. With that in place and 'Nova/bball schools placated, the Big East adds a 10th team for 2012.
OR
1. Villanova gets on the phone to UPenn, tout suite. They negotiate a deal to play at Franklin for a few years.
2. Villanova presents this to the Big East who tells them they can join, BUT not to start the moving-up process this year; wait until next year and use the extra time to develop the fan base, aquire funding, build the program for when they join in 2015.
3. Nova promises to do their damndest to outbid Temple for LFF in 2017 so the Big East doesn't have suffer from having a team playing in a 115 year old stadium on another school's campus for too long.
4. With that in place and 'Nova/bball schools placated, the Big East adds a 10th team for 2012.

So Nova would negotiate a long term plan with PPL to expand the stadium to 30,000 just to outbid Temple for LFF in 2017 (just 6 years from now)? They would then still be financing the debt from the stadium expansion to a stadium they don't even own, while leasing another stadium. Doesn't sound practical to me. (assuming they could even possibly lease LFF)

Ok. How about...they play at Penn for a few years and THEN try to outbid Temple? Edited the original post.

RE: What now?
PPL isn't going to agree to expand real soon without a long term commit from NOVA. Why add 12k seats then have 1/2 of your sales move out.

RE: What now?
Nova averaged +/-8,500 fans a game last year. Expecting them to build and fill a 30,000 seat stadium is a 250% increase in attendance. IMHO, its completely unattainable. As a disclaimer, I have no clue as to what UCONN was drawing before moving up.
For some perspective, ECU averaged 49,660 last year. What if the Big East said we could join but we must increase our capacity and attendance 250%? That would be almost 174,000. We've got a lot of work to do.
UCF? Your 39,614 average was good, but we need an increase of 250%. Expand BHNS to 138,000 and you're in. Get busy guys!

I really don't see Penn going for that. They really don't need the money, and they probably don't want a bunch of people coming and trashing their campus for some game they aren't even playing in.
BCS football games at Franklin Field would diminish the importance of Penn's own football team to the student body. Not to mention the Ivy League is a club, and they wouldn't want to sully their good name with the likes of associating with scholarship athletics.

RE: What now?
I think the Nova flirtation is over. There maybe some talk next month. My guess is that expansion is most likely over for the Big East.

I really agree and think that would be the best course for The Big East....9 is a good number at this point. Hang out for a few years and see what happens with The Big 12 and some of the "wannabe" schools.

RE: What now?
Why is Nova not signing a lease with PPL short term while either securing land nearby to build an erector set or tearing down their stadium to build a 35 or 40k seat erector set? Why?
Figure it out!

RE: What now?
Nova can not outbid Temple at the Linc as the Linc was built with taxpayer money from both the state and city of Philadelphia. Nova being a private institution has no official ties to either (and is not in Philly). Temple is a state related University whose funds come from both Philadelphia but mostly from Pennsylvania. There would be way to much political blow back in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania if a private school from the suburbs of Philly were to play in the Linc while the State related University who is in Philly and receives funds both the State and city were out bid to play in the State and City financed stadium
