The letter has already been posted on other threads. Interesting how it was worded though. "Without a clear and formal invitation from the Big East, we cannot proceed." My personal feeling is that the vote is a tactic to give Villanova's administration an excuse not to upgrade.

As far as the blog is concerned, the blogger completely mischaracterized what happened. He is asserting that Villanova is responsible for delaying the vote, when it was actually the Big East football schools that decided to reject Nova's plans.

As of March 30th, Nova didn't even have a stadium deal in place. This is on them, not anyone else.

That's kind of the impression I was getting. I feel like they knew months ago that an upgrade to the BE was too much of a daunting task financially and using/expanding PPL stadium was not going to work. Then they sat on their hands until this weekend to use the 'BE doesn't think we're ready' card to try to save some face.

Ding!

That why...everyone gets credit (Nova: "We tried out best") and the Big East ("We gave them almost 8 months to see if they could put a plan in place").

Everyone "tried"...so no one really got "turned down or rejected", it just didn't work out.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Now, all the disappointed Nova fans can be mad at the big, bad football schools instead of their own administration.

good news is there aren't that many that will be mad. it was a split decision at best and it isn't like we strung an ECU-like fanbase along.

I think this was a no go from the start. Why would Nova sign a contract with the Union if there was no guarantee that the Big East would accept them? Whoever said that this was staged just might've been right all along. Nova has just 1 month to get their ducks in a row. I really don't see this Nova thing happening.

I wonder if/when Nova goes back the 2nd time will Pitt/Rutgers just say:

"How about you give us half the money you were planning to spend on upgrading, we will go out back and kick you in the nuts and call it a day?"

RE: Father Donahue speaks (villanova)
It sounds like a more sophisticated and polite version of Memphis's problem - "Invite us in, and we will upgrade."
To which the Big East smartly and rightly says "Upgrade, and we may invite you in." Obviously the Nova situation is a little different, but they don't want to put the time into this until the Big East check clears.
