LOL, Ive been wondering when you would show up to jump all over these guys for talking so "harshly" about Memphis. What took you so long? 03-lmfao

Memphis? Really?

Don't know if serious.

Southern Miss also has 19 Bowl Appearances to Memphis bowl record of 3-3. Memphis also has 0 Bowl wins over AQ BCS Schools. ECU has defeated PAC 10 Stanford, ACC NCST and Big 12 Texas Tech. ECU also has a win over a ranked opponent in a Bowl game as we defeated ranked Boise St. in the 2007 Hawaii Bowl as well as beating ranked NCST in the 1991 Peach Bowl. San Diego St. has not finished ranked in a Top 25 poll since 1977. ECU has three Top 25 Poll rankings since then including a Top 10 which San Diego St. does not have. Fresno St. also does not have a Top 10 finish. Memphis has only finished ranked in a Top 25 poll once in 1964 and again no Top 10 finish.

What a bad list. No Nevada & ECU? UCF 4th?! Memphis on the list? Strange.

Obviously I'm biased on the ECU thing and I can get over that, but the fact that USM is not on there is borderline criminal.

The mid-major term is a bunch of crap. when you include teams like Duke, Baylor, Iowa State as major, but exclude Boise, BYU, etc, it is total crap.

An effort of the bogus bcs crowd to try to make a differentiation. If it was up to certain schools (alabama, Tenn, Texas, Ohio st, etc), you would actually have about 15 major schools, and the rest other.

I get blasted for defending Memphis, understood. But it is about potential not the past.

And the attendence figures for Memphis, even if declining are not bad.

Something needs to be done with this league or I project doomsday. And no, I am not pimping Memphis. I have a vested interest in WVU as well.

I remember WVU playing Georgia Tech in the Sugar Bowl when I was a kid. I've seen WVU go through some bad stretches since then. But I haven't seen any WVU teams that were as consistently bad as Memphis...

My dad talks about that to this day. They got blasted BTW. He says they went down there and had too much fun; GT was the bomb back in those days apparently. WVU was consistently bad in the mid to late 70s from what I remember, until Nehlen got things turned around.

That Georgia Tech team was a good one...

WVU had several bad years after Bobby Bowden left. But that changed when Don Nehlen hit Morgantown...

However, to listen to you telling the story, you act like WVU was lousy for a century or so. WVU never came close to being as bad as Memphis has been lately...

Ignorance is bliss - it has to do with potential not current status. And not too long ago TCU was competing with Memphis and not lighting it up while doing so; maybe now but not then.

Ignorance is bliss? I didn't realize Memphis had all this hidden potential. The rest of your statement is hard to understand, but I'm not exactly sure when we were competing with Memphis as we have only played yall once in the 110 or so years TCU has been playing football.

I believe there is potential; same league.

Good luck in and with the BE. I do not know what you think, but it may not be as easy in this league for FB as others would lead you to believe.

no clue why my Tigers are on that list. also no clue why it requires a 30 post thread on a Big East board.

I would have considered Southern Miss, Troy, Central Michigan on this list. They have been to bowls and done more than Memphis. Just playing in a large stadium to 50% capacity doesn't make you a great program. Temple and Tulane do that too.

I wish we averaged 34,200. Hopefully, in the next 3-5 years.

Why all the venom ... ??? You guys got lucky with your hiring of Gary Patterson. He's been successful and loyal to your program. Unfortunately, we held on to a coach who was on the downside of his head coaching career a little too long.

I think that we're on the right track now. We've got a young coach with a vision for our program ... 04-cheers !! I'm anticipating the program getting back into the post-season hunt soon ... perhaps even this year (although that maybe a little optimistic since it will only be his second year).

Quote:10. Memphis

Why it’s successful: It’s not, and it hasn’t been for a while. But there’s too much to like about a program that should be playing at a much higher level.
The bold shows why they shouldnt be up there. This is the best Mid-Major teams. not the potential or should be in a 10 year span.
Here is mine:
1.TCU
2.Boise St
3.BYU
4.Utah
5.Navy
6.ECU
7.UCF
8.Army
9.Houston
10.Miami OH

Miami of Ohio, nope. No way, same for Army. I would put Air Force, S, Miss, Nevada, Troy, Fresno ahead.

Memphis is on that list because we should be a big time program. Everybody seems to get it but our administration and as a result we have vastly under perfomed. We have no leadership at the University interested in changing the status quo. Memphis has location, facilities, a nice tv market, heck we even have a world class airport 03-lmfao Haters going to hate but Memphis is a sleeping giant. If we ever do get the BC$ check look for Memphis to become a powehouse in football.
