Looks like someone in the AD was reading my posts the last few days.

The timing is odd, but I'll take it nonetheless.

I'm just really excited that basketball will at the very least be interesting to follow again.

Stapelton shows his worth in that he is ignorant regarding where the money for the firing is coming from...or is he? The fact that he is drumming up this kind of media attention over a fiscal issue that isn't true tells me that he is more concerned about the racial ramifications of the firing above all else.

Time to hire Quinn Snyder, baby!

Soooooooo... How do you know the fiscal issue isn't true?

The firing buyout money is not being taken from general University funds. Stapelton knows this, but he's trying to act like the AD is stealing money from the University to create a sh!tstorm in the media because he's upset his friend got fired.

Yes what will the budget for new coach and staff? How can the new coach have time to bring in a decent recruiting class? Are we programming the new coach to fail by tying their hands?

Lest we forget Rams had a streak of bad luck with Medlock and Bowdry being injured during their careers. He was a good guy who honestly loved being here at EMU. I wish him nothing but the best to him and his family. I hope good things will happen to him.

I hope the next coach here at EMU loves being here too.

With all due respect guy, Ramsey was a terrible coach. 5 of his 6 seasons were of the losing variety, and the MAC West hasn't exactly been the Big East over the last decade.

As an outsider, the buyout does seem a bit odd. The article originally had the AD spokesperson stating the money is from guarantees. Is it prudent to use part of the cash guarantee from the OSU, Vandy, or UVA games (wherever it originated) to buyout the final year of a BB coach, vs. using that cash for minor facilities upgrades or improving the basketball recruiting budget to help the program next year (if only a bit) and long-term?

Though, I do see the argument in the AD thinking they can take a shot at rebuilding sooner rather than later, hoping improvement and athletic giving increases improve BB revenues. It's not a prudent decision, definitely a ballsy one.

It was the only possible move that could be made, he had 6 years and did not have the program anywhere near where it needed to be. As for the financial deals I suspect that part of the delay was in trying to get together the money needed for the buyout and new hire. The buyout is not that cost prohibitive, but I suspect we will have a hard time landing a quality candidate (with HC options) if we aren't going to up the salary from what Ramsey was making.

Nonsense EMS06. As a regent you don't air your differences with the prez in public. Secondly if the $$$ are here now there were there at the end of the basketball season. The U had the money then just like they have it now. If you think the way it was handled was a positive publicity wise for the program think again. Messy very messy.
Lastly the way it was handled timing wise you handcuff the new coach in terms of recruiting.

And you must have missed my comment about I'm glad he was gone. His failure as a coach is not a reflection on Rams as person and or that it he didn't give EMU his best efforts.

I feel for the asst coaches who are in a bind.

They're learning a month late that they don't have a job for next season.

Wonder if Rams will end up on the MSU staff replacing Montgomery.

How about Mike Garland as the new head man?

Been on Izzo's staff for a long time and is from the area. I think he would do a very good job at EMU

I Think there are better candidates such as Lickliter and maybe Fife.

Lickliter has a very solid reputation and Fife could be a rising star.

Both have HC experience, successful experience. Garland's stint at Cle State didn't go that well.

I'd think Gragg and Martin would be pleased to get either. EMU isn't exactly the most desirable job...

Lickliter could be a HC who just might stay even if very successful. Doubt he would be anxious to move AGAIN!

I just heard that Lickliter has some bad bagage to bring with him any truth to this?

RE: Rams is gone
SUPERFAN - Lichliter made $1.2 Million at Iowa and is still being paid.

When he was let go, the AD there stated 3 reasons:
1. team was losing for 3 yrs and not competitive

2. attendance was twindling -season tkts sufferred

3. 10+ players left the program during his 3 yrs there - to me this is a major concern.

P.S. My opinion: We could get Fife for mcuh less$$$'s, Fife is only 31 yrs of age

Haven't heard mcuh about other candidates bu the two newspaper articles had some favorable things to say about Mann and Jones.

WONDER WHAT TERRY FOSTER FROM THE NEWS WOULD SAY ABOUT THESE 2 INDIVIDUALS? I'M SURE HE KNOWS BOTH

Steve......EMU wanted Garland when he was at Cleveland State but it didn't work out then.....Garland had CSU going in the right direction and was doing it right but had some injuries that kept them from reaching their potential....the guy can obviously coach and is from the area, having coached at Belleville. Not the flavor of the moment I know but he would do a solid job in my opinion.

No matter who they hire, EMU has a long way to go and it will take some serious work to get things going the right direction. I'll be interested to see who they get.
