Looks like it so far. Stevens will likely stay at Butler. Nice to know that there are still some folks on this planet for whom money isn't everything. NCState wanted Shaka and, I think, everyong wants Stevens.

Stevens could get more money elsewhere - but where would he get a better program?

VCU really stepped up to the plate. The Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that VCU is going to pay Smart $1.2 Million a year with a 5 year contract. Good for VCU, however I must say that I'm somewhat suprised that they were able to come up with that kind of dough. Smart is obviously a good coach, but with only two years of head coaching experience under his belt, I think he made the right decision in turning down NC State, especially in light of the deal VCU came up with.

Maybe we're seeing a shift in coaching philosophies. Coaches used to think they had to be in a Power 6 conference to have a chance to make a name for themselves and go to the Final Four, Now we're seeing it can be done at a Mid Major and without all the pressure and drama that come with some top NAME programs. This is America! anything can happen if you work hard, beleive and have a little luck!

And shoot better than 18% from the floor in the national championship game. Ughhhlllllllyyyyy!
