Frank Haith to Mizzou- Their message board is in a meltdown mode
I been on their board off and on, since Anderson left. Their fans are even more delusional than the fans in Fayetteville. Expected to get Matt Painter, a Purdue Alum. When that fell through they were serious about getting Dixon from Pittsburgh, Cronin from Cincinatti, Stevens from Butler, and number of other big name coaches. Yesterday they were distraught that they might end up with Steve Alford (he wasn't good enough for them) who would have been a great choice- Alford came out and said he had no interest in leaving New Mexico. They thought Greg Marshall and Shaka Smart would be falling all over themselves to come to Columbia (neither were interested), but really didn't believe either was really good enough for them anyway.
Don't know much about Haith, but getting an ACC coach (Miami) to come there seems like a pretty decent get for Mizzou. What big name coach have they ever gotten up there? Anderson came from a midmajor and I believe Quin Snyder was an assistant when he went there.

Just blogged by Seth Davis-
First Mike Alden flies to Florida and gets played by Matt Painter. Now he's going to introduce a coach who is 23 games under .500 in conf.

Of course, in the thousands of posts, on the Mizzou board, Haith was never mentioned until now. Shows just how much the fans really "know".

What a true statement! I've never seen anything like the rumor mill that can get ginned up on a fan message board. The fact of the matter is that fans (read fanatics like us) don't really know what is going on anymore than anybody else, other than the guy doing the hiring. However, Seth Davis does have a point. Haith was rumored (again that word) to be on the hot seat at Miami, but it was thought they he was safe for now since the AD down there is brand new. Well that is a moot issue now.

I have to admit I was totally surprised at this choice. I thought sure Greg Marshall or possibly Shaka Smart would be offered and take the job. Shows what I know. I never even heard of this guy, so if I were a Mizzou fan, I'd probably be upset also. But maybe he'll do a great job. You never know.

Jer, looks like you haven't heard of a lot of guys. You need to broaden your college basketball horizons.

I admitted that in a previous post. But there have been a ton of names thrown out there in regards to coaching vacancies lately, and Frank Haith was never mentioned. Hey. I know who Peter Thomas, an assistant at Richmond is, and I'll bet there are a lot of knowledgeable basketball fans around the country who don't know him. Hopefully they will when he becomes a successful head coach one of these days.

There is a big difference between being a DoBo and a head coach at an ACC or Big Ten school. There would be very few fans who would know the names of many of the former, but almost all would know the names, or have at least heard of the latter.

Can't argue that point. I'm obviously coach challenged!

Never heard of the coach at Army when Lou Henson was fired my sophomore year at IU.

I didn't realize that the Lou Do was at IU prior to Knight. He obviously made a comeback though and landed down the line next door at Illinois, prior to returning to finish things out at New Mexico State. Remember the one time we got New Mexico State to Little Rock during their brief time in the SBC? The Trojans really laid a whoopin' on ole Lou.

Jim I personally had no idea who was the coach before BK, but I did have a little knowledge about Lou Henson, and didn't ever remember him being at Indiana, so I Googled it. Now that it has been cleared up, I had never heard of Lou Watson until I Googled it.

Glad to know that somebody goes back farther than me! Or as it turns out, knows Google better!
