ESPN.com Fiesta Bowl on verge of losing BCS Status...wow!!!
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Fiesta Bowl ejected its chief executive amid corruption allegations and now faces a new challenge: convincing the BCS to let it stay in the lucrative bowl system used to crown a national champion.

If Fiesta Bowl officials can't, BCS executive director Bill Hancock says the organization has no problem booting them.

"We will not do business with people who do business like that," Hancock said. "We just will not be associated with this kind of behavior."

Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott added: "We want to send a clear and very strong signal to the public about the standards and values [that] the conferences that make up the BCS stand for."

The Fiesta Bowl released an internal report that uncovered "excessive compensation, nonbusiness and inappropriate expenditures and inappropriate gifts" and fired longtime president and CEO John Junker.

I wonder if they said that with a straight face.

By the way, how much will Jerry Jones pay to have the Cotton Bowl as the replacement BCS bowl? Will Jones offer cruises?02-13-banana

Will C-USA claim the Fiesta Bowl vs the MAC?

The Pacific 10 Conference Wrote:"We want to send a clear and very strong signal to the public about the standards and values [that] the conferences that make up the BCS stand for."

Funny. I thought this WAS what it stood for.

Well I guess the Cotton Bowl will be getting the BCS nod once the Fiesta gets the boot.

I've got a feeling Congress is about to start looking into the bowl setup. It's a great system - for the people who run the bowl games, and the cities those bowls are located within. But it's not so great for the universities, most of whom lose money by going to these game...

A post season game shouldn't lose any school money. It should be additional income, an added bonus for a good season. The better the season, the better the bonus should be. But it works in reverse. The bigger the bowl game you get invited to, the better your chances at losing money. The bigger the bowl game, the more money you have a chance to lose...

We need to do away with the bowl system altogether. The only people who benefit are the bowls, their executives, and the host cities. Most schools don't see any profit from bowl games, and the BCS system doesn't eliminate the debate over which team is the best. It's time for it all to end...

Or will the Fiesta Bowl go out of buisness all together?

Think about it, if this game was Big XII vs. At-large for BCS and now no conference is tied into it......plus the Big XII and Big Ten are already playing in the Insight Bowl what is to stop this game then from dissolving?

The Cotton would be a better choice than the Fiesta as its centrally located and in a bigger TV market. UConn lost a ton of money on tickets because the game was in Arizona. Move that BCS game to Dallas and I bet UConn would have brought twice as many. There just isn't enough schools out west to support more than 1 BCS bowl.

I would also like to see the BCS add the Peach Bowl for the large Atlanta market, giving 6 total BCS slots. The non-BCS along with ND, BYU, Army, Navy should be ensured 1 autobid for the highest placed finisher.
