OT: Orange Bowl next BCS Bowl to be investigated?
Several scathing bits of information came out today.

First is the following document on the Orange Bowl "Cruise" from July 2010...where this not-for-profit organization, aka charity, The Orange Bowl, used funds to entertain AD's and Conf Commissioners (and a guest) from virtually every conf in the nation.

Then they threw in extra things like $100 in ship spending cash, free messages/pedicures to folks from the ACC...

Same group that started up and helped expose the Fiesta Bowl are now targeting the Orange Bowl:

IRS Complaint about Orange Bowl Cruise & spending

Then yahoo.com's Dan Wetzel just wrote an article which helps expose the joke of a BCS "task force" which was just set up yesterday in light of the Fiesta Bowl Scandal...and who is on this "task force"?

An Athletic Director that attended the FREE Orange Bowl Cruise!! (Almost like having the Fox investigate the hen house!)

BCS conducts shallow probe as the party rages on

Wonder why Conferences bend over backwards and agree to the 17,000 plus tix guarantees so easily?

This could be why: (From above Wetzel article):

Among the attendees, according to Orange Bowl documents, were administrators from eight Atlantic Coast Conference institutions plus two from the ACC office.

How does the Orange Bowl reward its “partner” conference? By forcing participating teams to buy 17,500 artificially inflated tickets (up to $225 a seat) they have no chance of reselling (for last year’s game, you could buy online for $15). Then they get locked into exorbitant travel costs (nearly 500 high-end hotel rooms at up to $319 a night).

It’s a sure financial loser ? as are most bowl games. For playing in the 2009 game, Virginia Tech and the ACC lost $1.7 million. In 2011, they returned to lose $1.6 million more. The Orange Bowl continued to roll in cash. The Coco Locos continued to flow.

Add in the free cruise, $100 spending credit all of those attendees received on the ship, plus, the free messages/pedicures for ACC folks at their hotel...this whole not-for-profit charity bowl picture is just one giant scam...where those in charge are just "playing" with everyone's $$$$/Donations.

If those bowls above were smart...they are burning documents today and retyping up new ones.

EVERY BOWL is probably crapping in their pants as of now (thinking they will be investigated next)...and those thinking about starting up a bowl game...might be having 2nd thoughts.

Who knows? This could be what finally leads to a playoff system. I say do it similar to the NFL. Take the Top 10 teams for the playoff field, the Top 6 get a 1st round bye while the other 4 playoff to become 2. Then in the 2nd round the top seed takes on the lowest remaining seed so forth and so on.

Bright House Networks Stadium was in the process of forming a new bowl based around breast cancer research called the Cure Bowl or something like that. Maybe this sort of thing scared the idea away.

Hmmm. Did you saw the list of who attended? Yes it includes some Big East schools and both ADS from USF and UCF. This nothing new and the OB has done it for years and by the way wasnt the UCF AD the OB CEO?

1993-2006, before he became AD.

These bowls are greedy because they know it is their livelihood. The Orange Bowl was happy with the Big Eight champion (Nebraska or Oklahoma) vs an at-large. They could sell tickets.

Now they have the ACC. It is not the same. They can't sell the same amount of seats. They are surviving by forcing conferences to buy tickets.

Wake Forest winning the conference was a great story until you had to buy the tickets.

RE: OT: Orange Bowl next BCS Bowl to be investigated?
Real question could be what Bowls could be elevated if the BCS decides to go to 5 Bowls now that we have a real concern of the Fiesta and Orange possibly losing their status?

Could we see a lineup like this;

Rose B10 vs Pac 10
Cotton B12 vs At Large
Sugar SEC vs At Large
Gator, Capitol 1 or Outback ACC vs At Large
Not sure what the 5th could be. Could the Alamo be in the running?

The capital Bowl could NOT ever be a BCS Bowl as long as it plays its games in the Citrus Bowl. The Cotton doesnt have an ESPN contract so would be hard for them also. I dont see any Bowl being replaced until the left over three year contract runs out. More likely you could see the Alamo bowl in San Antonio taking over if it came to that. If the OB loses it you could see Atlanta gain it just as they did when NO couldnt hold the Sugar bowl after Katrina. I think the Cotton could end up taking over for Fiesta in the next cycle

If Atlanta was to get a BCS Bid, I'd like to see the Big East get an autobid to that one.

Even if the Fiesta and Orange lost their status, I don't think it would be official until the contract runs out anyways.

For those that want the NCAA to take over and have a playoff (vs the "BCS folks" run a "BCS" type playoff) is to have investigations into ALL BCS Bowl Games...and if there were laws broken in regards to these "charities", NCAA has to step in a save the day...and start up the first ever official NCAA Div I-A playoff system...and the BCS Bowl System goes away.

No clue if it ever will happen (still a long shot)...but over the last 24-48 hours of the misdealings involving the Fiesta and now Orange Bowl...odds had to improve.

Jerry will do whatever it takes to make the Cotton Bowl part of the rotation. Maybe when the new contract come about u will see this:

Sugar Bowl: SEC vs @ Large
Cotton Bowl: Big IIX vs. @ Large
Fiesta Bowl: BIG EAST vs. @ Large
Rose Bowl: Big 10 vs. Pac 12
Orange Bowl: ACC vs. @ Large

It would give the Big 10, Pac 12, SEC & Big IIX more opportunity to put 2 teams in the BCS. My question is which Bowl would the SEC get to replace the Cotton.

No freaking way that happens. The Four current Bowls have been against a 5th BCS bowl added that will lower their NC rotation and NO WAY does the Fiesta take the Big East champ every year.

You will more likely see Jerry use this news to slide in and take the Fiesta's slot in the next contract. The Cotton Bowl with the Big12 or whatever they are is a perfect fit for that bowl game.

Your scenario is more likely but I would not be surprised if you do see a 5th BCS Bowl game added to the rotation as well. It all about money and guarantees & maybe with this situation with the Orange Bowl & Fiesta Bowl you will see some changes.
