A pound of flesh
Today's RC mentions that the University believes the buyout liability in Geno's contract is $1.2 M. Get every penny of it and do not compromise one bit. This would at least make a down payment on a new couch for Senderoff's office.

RE: A pound of flesh
If that is in the contract, and I'm sure it is, how can they NOT pay, and get away with it? I assume Ford is the one obligated, right, even though, typically, the new school takes care of it? Is Bradley hoping Kent State will "settle" rather than fight it in court? Kent State shouldn't settle. They should sue for the full amount plus legal fees and all costs, interest and punitive damages, if allowable, under the law. Certainly, Ford has the right to leave, but he must honor all provisions of his contract.

Bradley does not deserve to get a settlement for how they handled this whole thing. They should pay every penny and we should hold them to it. Considering how much the university needs money and how this went down I suspect they will fight for it.

RE: A pound of flesh
Actually, the portion of the contract reprinted in Kent Wired today indicates that it’s either Geno Ford or his employer who are liable for the buy out if he signed a contract with another school before March 31, 2015.
Don’t care who pays...just pay up. Both of them have the money.

I doubt Ford has $1.2Million to toss around. If he had to pay it it would be a 4 year + pay back. Not very good.

The four year payback is OK. It will be that or a up front settlement for less. Geno, $700,000 minus $300,000 equals $400,000 per year for the 4 years. Now, his deal does not look so good.

RE: A pound of flesh
Bradley played this like it was closing a big sale, I'm sure they said don't let Ford leave without a signed contract. Niceties were throw out the window, no room for being a nice guy. Get him to commit and don't give him any wiggle room. It absolutely was setup this way to not give Geno a chance to reflect before the contract was signed.
Ok, fine. I understand. Dealer calls the game.
However, since the precedent was set that way, Kent needs to return in kind. The contract must be honored, in full. Not with prejudice, just fullfilling the contract. Every penny, as per the contract.
