Damarcus Smith asks for release
from UCF. I guess all those UL fans were correct about the kid wanting out. Surprised no one had posted it.

RE: Damarcus Smith asks for release
He will make an excellent quarterback for the University of Kentucky or whatever fine school he decides to sign with within the terms of his release 03-wink

RE: Damarcus Smith asks for release
central florida has no reason to deny smith going to louisville. they are not on their future schedule. they are not in the same conference. to my knowledge neither team has played each other in football.

it sounds to me that he realized that he made a mistake in college choice. since smith has not enrolled or attended any practice, he should be released with no strings, whether he goes to louisville or east carolina.

and central florida fans shouldn't hate on the kid for bailing (and i'm not saying that you are).

Even if they do block it... it only means he can't have a scholarship for 1 year. He could get a student loan for 1 year, then go the rest of his career on scholarship.

Correct. I suspect UCF will tell Smith they'll release him to anyone except CUSA members, opponents on upcoming schedules, or Louisville. Then we'll see how bad he wants to play at UofL because he'll only have 3 years of eligibility at Louisville or he'll have to go to a prep school for a year.

I knew about this much earlier today but didn't post solely because of the goofy UCF reactions on the previous Smith threads where myself and others mentioned that he regretted his decision nearly immediately. The threads ended up moved and locked.

I'm sure you'll also have the UCF clowns claiming UofL's coaches tampered with him post-signing, which is simply ridiculous. I do stand by what I said previously, the kid is immature and needs to grow up, even if he does end up a Cardinal.

I think he sits for a year, and he winds up at UofL. I hope the best for the kid. Mostly, I hope he grows up and learns to stand up for himself. UofL fan knows what i'm saying. 03-shhhh

Maybe he just realized Godfrey isn't moving to WR so he can play QB?

He's a confused teenager that belongs at UofL. Hopefully UCF will show a little class and let him out of his LOI with no strings attached; we'll see how this next chapter plays out.

Class? Like the class UofL fans have shown UCF? Is that the class you're talking about? Ironic, seriously. Best of luck to D. Smith. Poor kid got worn down. I really feel sorry for him.

Sorry but UCF has classless fans in spades compared to anyone here. Your fanbases' immaturity was shown through the stunts on the Louisville rivals board, so your fan base has no room to talk. That's not even mentioning the UCF behavior on this board which got the Smith thread locked.

RE: Damarcus Smith asks for release
Simmer down.

Alabama has shown no quarter to refusing in-state competition with athletes who have been waffle-stricken in deciding the school they wish to attend, just as an example. Both Louisville and UCF had contingencies in place depending on what school Smith would choose. But him wanting out of his letter of intent changes the program's focus, if ever slightly.

UCF has a right to place restrictions on where he can go if the football program releases him. Louisville would also have that same luxury if Smith were wishing to come to UCF instead. Both universities can see he isn't mature enough to become a team player yet due to his indecisiveness in deciding which school will shape his professional future best.

Attacking each other's fanbases is pretty childish. As for "showing some class", then by golly, shouldn't we expect Louisville to allow him to come to UCF, if the show was on the other foot. But losing a native player is like losing a draft pick.

RE: Damarcus Smith asks for release
As for me, the class comments aren't in reference to UCF and their decision, it's the fanbase. Of course there are exceptions and I don't have issue with you Tampa, but much of the Knight fanbase has an earned reputation, be it on NCAAbbs or Rivals.

That's continued today with the full force BS claims from most UCF fans that Strong and staff continued recruiting after he signed the LOI and told him to ask for a release.

That's understandable, but in this climate of suspensions, sanctions, and violations, it isn't that out of the ordinary. I would feel the same way if my school was the target of accusation.

The claims can be considered BS until something substantial comes of this. In the mean time...

Why would he only have 3 years of eligibility left? He hasn't played a down of football or enrolled at school anywhere. Even if he has to pay his own way for a year he will still have 4 years of eligibility.

Bottom line is this, restrictions or not he going to be @ Louisville likely as early as this fall. He will not be a UCF Knight and one way or another will be very very likely enrolled as a student @ Louisville.

He should be released by GOL, to play for anyone but Louisville, and CUSA schools. I wish Smith well, but it is pretty clear some booster tampering went on here, I don't believe Strong nor other Louisville coaches have acted improperly. but Louisville should not be rewarded for that.

Kettle, pot. You apparently, are one of the better Louisville fans that have not been all over our boards with your nonsense. Your fans are = horrid. Grow up.

This. And good riddance. This kid is too much drama. We don't need him or to put up with his crap. I do think Louisville's fan base pressured him to switch after he committed. They shouldn't be rewarded for impropriety, but if he's willing to sit-out a year then that's fine.

Agreed. I understand blocking him from conference schools and future OOC opponents during his tenure. Or a major recruiting rival. Louisville may indeed be a major recruiting rival but the kid hasn't been in one practice in a UCF uniform.

Guys, this thread is about Demarcus Smith. Not UL or UCF posters.

i.e. - Knock it off.
