2011-2012 schedule OOC
SMU
@ILST
MSU
@LA TECH
@TULSA
ORU
NW ST
@NW ST

Tournament 1?
vs Mich ST
vs Canisius

Tournament 2?
Kentucky

I think that leaves 7. Two of those will be non-D1, so we should be looking for 5 D1 games.

It will be interesting to see who we schedule. We have had a lot of luck the last few years.

Anyone have a team they would like to see us play? Billikens for me. Spiders for PTJR. Anyone else?

Who is that, Butler? I wouldn't mind a rematch with UNC-Ashville. UTSA, another playin team would be interesting as well.

I wonder if Billy G. would give us a home and home with TT. I guess he didn't play Steve when he was at A and M or Kentucky, but I didn't know they were best buddies back then.

Really good friends don't like to play each other. If they're in the same conference they can't avoid it, but I doubt they'd schedule an OOC game. But you never know.

Some do Some don't. I would think Billy G. might if Steve told him that bringing in TT would be a huge thing for our program. The reality is we drew 2000 for Texas Tech when they were a top 20 team when Hamrick brought them in here. They wouldn't draw the 3500 that Ole Miss did. Still it would be a really nice replacement for the Ole Miss home and home, and continue our trend of excellent nonconference scheduling. No one has mentioned it, but our tough OOC schedule and especially the 3 games in 3 days in Vegas may well have helped our tournament run.

I'd like to see a home and home with Gonzaga.

Gonzaga is not coming here. They were a little down this year, but I'm not sure I want to mess with them anyway. I like the teams we have been scheduling. Solid midmajor programs that we can generally compete with.

RE: 2011-2012 schedule OOC
Really I can't think of a regional team that I'd like to schedule, that we haven't scheduled. All the teams I've wanted to schedule for years we have scheduled- Memphis, SMU, LaTech, MoState, Tulsa, ORU. I have no complaints on the scheduling at all. Since we no longer "have to" I could live with scheduling a big time money game. But I'll leave that up to the coach and AD. While it would probably get ugly, the kids would probably like going to Kansas, UNC, etc. Probably would rather go to LSU, Auburn, etc. but I have a feeling those schools might not want to play us.

Did you read the original post? It asked what team we'd like to see us play. I'd like to see us play Gonzaga. I didn't say that they'd come here.

As insideualr posted, we already know about half of a good OOC schedule for next year. However, I believe his statement about having two non-D-I's on the schedule is erroneous. It is my understanding that the SBC has instituted a ban on those games for the regular season.

Question is does it go into effect this season. Will it be enforced? We could easily fill it by scheduling UCA home and home. At this point that game would be an RPI killer. Not sure how much that matters at this point since no Sun Belt school this year had an RPI high enough for the NCAA or NIT. I would bet the CBI or CIT would take us if we win 20 games regardless of our RPI (If we would consider it this time around.)

If we don't make the NIT or NCAA next year, this team is young enough the taking the CIT or CBI bid would be worth the money to the the extra games in the one and done style of play.

I've got to believe Chris would consider it more seriously this time around. We'd probably go on the road anyway, with us preparing to host the Women's NCAA tournament

From what I could find on the internet the CIT is more set up for midmajors. The cost is 31,500 to host which helps pay for the visiting teams travel costs. The CBI costs are more to host and goes up for each round. Here's an article pertaining to this year's Oregon team-

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon paid the CBI $35,000 to host the first round game of the tournament.

The athletic department hopes to make its money back in ticket and concession sales and by not having to pay for the team's road expenses.

If the Ducks win Wednesday night, the university says it will try pay the more than $50,000 to host the next round and $75,000 to host the semi finals.

Really nothing to lose to play a road game. I guess Chris could better assess if we could draw a legit 2000 to cover the cost of hosting a CIT game. Personally, I'd like to extend our postseason streak to two years in a row. I realize the odds of winning the "crapshoot" Sun Belt tourney two years in a row are quite small.

The game at Matthew Knight Arena is March 16 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $23 for lower bowl, $18 for upper bowl and free to students

OOC Opponents I'd like to play include:

Arkansas
Georgia Southern
A really big time team like Duke or Kentucky or Kansas
A rematch with Asheville could be fun
If we have to go DII how about Southern Arkansas? Hell let's go lower and play my alma mater Hendrix!
Baylor
UCA/UAPB

I would imagine at some point we would play an Atlanta area school to allow White family and friends to see him play. And of course I'm bias to wanting to see us play in Atlanta. So I would like to see us play Georgia Tech and/or Georgia State. I could see us doing a home and home with Georgia State.

I guess we should keep in mind the new scheduling requirements. Now might be the time to schedule a Duke or Kansas. I'd like to play Butler or VCU too.
