Needless to say, I had a GREAT TIME in Denver!
The game against Vandy was one of the best played games I've ever seen. Both teams were playing very well, only 10 turnovers combined for the game (Richmond- 3, Vandy- 7). The game just before the Spiders game against Vandy was when Morehead State beat Louisville on a last second three. The shot reminded me a lot of when Ron Brewer very calmly just walked down the court and hit the winner against Notre Dame in the last, or one of the last 3/4 games ever played in the NCAA's.
No one overlooked Morehead State in the Spiders second game. After all, this team had just taken out Louisville. The Spiders took care of business, never trailed, and got a 17 point victory in the end. Morehead State seemed pretty confused by the Richmond match-up zone defense.
The Pepsi Center (referred to in Denver as "The Can") was a great NBA arena. Right in downtown. Just across the freeway from Investco Field where the Broncos play. Weather was fantastic. Clear as a bell so you could see the snow capped Rockies that rise just to the west of the city.
And I also got to see what everybody is talking about concerning Jimmer Ferdette. I stayed for the first half of the Gonzaga/BYU game. Jimmer deserves all the hype. Not a physically imposing guy, but he is something to behold as a shooter!
Hope everybody will keep rooting for the Spiders! They face off Friday against the Kansas Jayhawks, the #2 overall seed in the tournament, in the Sweet Sixteen.
