That article's actually on the front page of the NCAAF section on Yahoo! at the moment. :)

Yes, I really enjoyed this article. It does make you wish for football season to start next week.

"Northern Illinois is arguably the best job in the MAC."

Article has my stamp of approval. How did I miss the fact he turned down head coaching jobs at Montana and Cal Poly previously? Makes the fact we're playing Cal Poly this year weirder.

RE: Tom Dienhart Article on Doeren/NIU
"The facilities here are great."

One thing from the kickoff that Coach Doeren said was that the weight room in the Yordon center could compete with any big time program.

I have lifted at the U of M Shembechler Hall in the summers from 95-98 and from what I see in the pictures of the Yordon lifting room I would say it is just about on par with what I experienced. The only difference is the 40yd track is an improvement. HOWEVER I am comparing what I saw 13 years ago from what NIU just got less than 4 years ago.

Quote:"I would rather come to a place where a lot is expected," Doeren says. "We won't be a lot different on offense with nine starters back. Some formations will be tweaked, but [offensive coordinator] Matt Canada doesn't need to reinvent what they are doing.

That is very good news, especially with Harnish coming back.

That is GREAT press. We at NIU have always known of our potential and it is great to see outsiders proclaim it as well.

While there's no news in it, it is a great read, and great to have a writer with Dienhart's profile do an NIU piece.
