Has to be perimeter
You never thought you heard me say this, but we have enough post players (assuming all of them arrive/stay).

Neighbour 6-10
Javes 6-9
Leeper 6-9
White 6-8
Louzeiro 6-7
Kibi 6-6
Jackson 6-6

Since probably none of them are 3's, and that would be 7 of 13 scholarships, we have to go after some perimeter players, even if they are 3/4's. I think it is a given that Chucky and D'Andre will be playing a ton of minutes next season, but we've got to have some more depth on the outside. Tramar will help. Fondren should. But even that if only four deep at guard.

Hopefully we snag Hooper and then get a REALLY good SG.

If Javes is solid, I have to wonder how hard we'll go after Hooper. Normally, I'd say you never pass on what looks like a pretty talented big man. But like Michaelspappy pointed out we would be a very unbalanced team. We clearly need a good shooting guard.

It's not unbalanced for grinderball. It's setting up nicely to be grinder-delux.

One of the reasons we've played what some have referred to as "Grinder Ball", is that most of our big men have refused or are unable to kick the ball back out quickly to the shooters when they are covered. However, if you notice, one of Gus Leeper's good qualities is to recognize this and get the ball back out to the perimeter quickly which allows a perimeter shooter to get an open shot. The strategy is to go inside first and either have a close in shot, or draw the defense to you, and kick it quickly to the open shooter. That isn't "Grinder Ball". It's only that way if the post player isn't able or willing to give up the ball and trys to force a shot every time.04-cheers

If we have five good perimeter players, that is plenty - IF they stay healthy. But it is a thin margin for error with injuries. And they have to be players.

If WN can legit play the 3, that would give us some slack there.

Don't get me wrong: if we can sign Vint, by all means get him. We'll muddle through on the perimeter.
