attendance
There has been some talk about Belmont's low attendance numbers recently on these boards. So, I went back through some attendance for Belmont since the 2005-06 season (the year of the first NCAA appearance). Here are the yearly averages since that year.

2010-11 1802
2009-10 1486
2008-09 1857
2007-08 1656 (Tournament year)
2006-07 1351 (Tournament year)
2005-06 1584 (Tournament year)

We had an off year in 09-10, but for the most part, attendance is slowly climbing. Although Belmont has a tradition in basketball, most of it was NAIA. They were one of the little colleges in the area. Battling for college basketball fans in this area is tough with Vandy, UT, TSU, MTSU, and APSU having longer Division 1 histories.

In addition, Belmont was in the back seat during the NAIA years. Lipscomb dominated the NAIA, so they got the spotlight during those years.

I think with continued strong play, Belmont will continue to bring in new fans, but it will take time...and winning.

RE: attendance
Thanks for putting this together '02. Hopefully we can keep the trend going upward.

RE: attendance
Also, I assume this probably doesn't take student attendance into consideration, does it?

I think it includes the students. When the student scans their student ID to enter, it counts the attendance. They not only track how many are there, they know which ones attended. My daughter is a freshman this year and she got a free ticket to the game at DLU because she was in the top 40 in basketball attendance. They knew how many games she attended.
