2011 A-Sun Baseball
Great first two days for the Atlantic Sun -- not that it's a real surprise, but good to see that the hype is matching results so far.

Mercer (3-0), Stetson (2-0), and Kennesaw State (2-0) undefeated through 2 days.

No team worse than 1-1 early on.

Hopefully A-Sun can finally get back to the multi-bid discussions.

Stetson making a bid to return to former dominance -- sweeping Georgia 3-0. It's early to make any bold predictions based on one weekend. All I will say is it would be great for the A-Sun to have Stetson "back". There were some heated Mercer/Stetson games on the diamond just a few years back.

2-2 through the first series. Not bad...we'll see how we do against Illinois.

One thing I noticed about our schedule? No Gators? I guess UF is scared.

Yep, looks like I'm the only one here. Which is sadly typical.

Another good day in the ASun. Hatters (4-0) and Kennesaw State (5-0) remain undefeated.

and a good job by KSU softball beating #21 Georgia Tech - sounds familiar from November I think. Jackets shouldn't want none of the Owls in any sport!

The team currently in last place at 2-4 is... FLORIDA GULF COAST!

I know it's VERY early, but that's a little hole they've dug in the first 6 games of the season. Not having an MLB quality starter on Friday nights is really going to impact this team's ability to be elite. All they had to do last year was split Saturday/Sunday and they won weekend series.

Mercer sweeps Alabama State to move to 8-2....trailing only Oklahoma (9-0) in overall wins.
Stetson remains undefeated beating Maine. Now 5-0.
Jacksonville sweeps Samford, now 6-2
FGCU salvaged one win from Illinois... now 3-4.

RE: 2011 A-Sun Baseball (60-35)
Conference play opens up this weekend (March 4-6). So far a great season for the A-Sun. Most teams doing very well... FGCU the only team to stumble out of the starting gate. They did pull back to .500 today at (4-4), maybe they can get it together.

Current (very EARLY) conference RPI is 6th on Warren Nolan

RE: 2011 A-Sun Baseball
Stetson #26 in Collegiate Baseball News poll. Wow. Hatters beat Columbia, Illinois and Central Michigan to go to 9-1.

A-Sun games started...KSU swept Campbell, Mercer 2 of 3 at Belmont, FGCU 2 of 3 at UNF, ETSU 1 win at Upstate and then the last 2 games cancelled. That'll hurt the Bucs in May to miss what probably would have been 2 wins.

This weekend: Lipscomb series at Ole Miss; Stetson at Campbell, Upstate at JU, KSU at Belmont, ETSU at UNF, FGCU at Mercer. That last series should be terrific.

I have to say, with how the A-Sun is playing so far(shh, I know we're sucking), is it possible that this is a two-bid league this year?

lol nice.

The A-Sun is in my opinion a strong contender for multiple bids to the NCAA tourney. Let's hope these teams keep the gas pedal down and the wins pile up.

RE: 2011 A-Sun Baseball
It seems interesting to me that the A-Sun excels in baseball by comparison to other sports. I suppose part of this can be attributed to so many of the schools being in the South, but I wonder if there are some other reasons for it.

It's early. Alot of the northern teams come south this time of the year. That translates into home games. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Big series starting tonight with Florida Gulf Coast (7-5) @ Mercer (11-4). Both teams are 2-1 in conference.

ETSU @ UNF also important, and Stetson looking for a sweep at Campbell

RE: 2011 A-Sun Baseball
FGCU streak of 17 straight A-Sun series wins snapped tonight as Mercer will look for a SWEEP tomorrow!

edit -- I didn't realize it was that bad, and that's an incredible streak they had going. Keyword is "had"
