We need a big game from Chas tonight, plus
we have to shoot well from the free throw line to win. According to coaches, Western is the most athletic team in the league, and their point guard is a terrific player. Chas, Asriel and Shanika need to stay out of early foul trouble. Especially Chas. That's been a problem this year in several games. I think our girls will be ready, and we'll respond to the challenge. Win or lose, I'm looking for a great game.

Well we were perfect from the foul line- 12 for 12. Not enough, even though Western's leading scorer, leading rebounder, and leading 3 point shooter quit the team on Monday. May have been ugly if she was there. Or maybe not. Maybe the other girls just stepped it up in notch. They didn't look bad for a 10-14 team. Really, they just wanted it more than we did. When you almost get doubled in rebounds, the other team just out worked and outhustled you. We'll see what we are made of coming back against MTSU on Sunday.

I hated to be right, but I've told folks at work and at the game tonight that our erratic play would catch up with us..sure enough, it did! Still, kudos to WKU for coming in with a game plan and executed it to perfection. Poor record or great, players walking out or injured, Western is still Western and from what I saw, the 'Toppers will surprise some folks in Hot Springs next month. For our beloved Lady Trojans, I'm afraid that we'll lose out and be eliminated two weeks from Sunday. I know that's awful to say, but the truth is the truth.

Curtis, my friend, I think you are going a little too far. Yes, we were out hustled and outrebounded by a team that has struggled much of the season due injuries, player defections, etc. And I agree we may lose to MTSU. But we are not going to lose out and then lose a first round tournament game. This team had won 28 regular season conference games in a row. We aren't going to just roll over. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us come out and beat Middle on Sunday. Whether or not we do, we won't lose again until we meet them in the tourney final on Tuesday in Hot Springs.

MJS, you're definitely right. It was the downer in myself talking after a deflating loss. Depenging on whom our opponent will be 2 weeks from Sunday, we shouldn't have too much trouble getting into at least the semifinals. It all depends on how prepared we are and if we're willing to focus in on our game. Perhaps this loss will finally wake us up and force us to move forward. See everyone tonight for the mens game. BTW, you have my permission to start the "We Want Curtis" chant tonight and the remaining home games.

Sometimes teams play better when a "star" leaves the team or doesn't play. Of course that assumes you have some other good players who haven't had as much opportunity to score because the "star" takes most of the shots. Last night Western had two players score 18 points each, and two score 11 points each. Any team that does that is going to win most games. If we could convince our men's team to utilize more of their scorers more often than one guy usually dominating the stats in a lot of losing efforts, we might win more games. I have to think Western might be a better "team" without the girl who was their leading scorer.
I saw a lot of very good talent out there last night. Good enough to beat anyone on a given night. Whoever draws them in the tournament will have their hands full.
