indy or cincy
me and the wife have often talked about moving to one of these 2 city's. we like having a diverse variety of things to do. i've spent some time in indy and it's cool. cincy has an appeal for obvious reasons. just looking for a good place that feels alive and still be somewhat near family. i'm sure everything is old news to you guys down there and maybe not worth bragging about. kings island and fantasy farm mean nothing to you. believe me, its better then dayton. it's dead.

Do you want to live Downtown, near Downtown? Both cities have good options.

There is quite the discussion going on about Indy vs Cincy in the political forum in this thread: Got to skip down from the original posting. Like everything else around here, it devolves : http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=478977

near downtown. not sure i could live in the heart of it. far enough to have some quiet nights but someplace where I have ample options of delivered pizza.

B, either city where you get the job offer wins first place.

As far as nightlife goes and things to do in and around the city, I definitely prefer Indy.

I prefer Indy as well. Though if I were to move to a regional large city based on it's pulse and what it has going on it would be Louisville hands down. Great quick weekend away destination that we do a couple times a year.

Unfortunately though, "Louisville sucks".

I am in Dowtown Cincy often, lots of nightlife same for places like Mt. Adams. For Indy vs. Cincy it really depend on the
neighborhood, both are superior to Louisville. Nashville's West End is nice.

Indy has its downtown and Broad Ripple. Louisville has Bardstown Road and to a much lesser extent downtown.

Cincinnati has neighborhoods: Downtown, Clifton, Northside, Hyde Park, Covington/Main Strasse, Newport/Levee, Mt. Lookout, Mt. Adams...

I pick Cincy first, Louisville second, Indy third. I just think Indy is so boring and suburban. That city offers so little that's unique.

Louisville really doesn't have a downtown Wholesale District, Mass Ave., Lockerbie, Old Northside, that Indy has. There are some residences and that 4th St live thing (which is nice), but they are behind Cincy and Indy.

You need to see what is going on around the arena in Louisville. Area that was once just the Galt House and Louisville Slugger Field is absolutely exploding. Crazy.

Thanks for the note Rath. I will be down on East Jefferson soon which is close. It is getting better.

I've only been to louisville once and was not real impressed. It's like out in the middle of nowhere. we went to kentucky kingdom. around 1 am we drove by some old train depot or something and a bunch of people were just hanging out. some had little kids. It was strange.

By Indy's definition, the Wholesale District, Mass Ave, Lockerbie - and probably Old Northside - are considered "Downtown."

I like Mass Ave - been to it numerous times. The Wholesale District is where most of the bustle is, and that's the part I care for the least. Lockerbie is primarily housing. Old Northside...is that the same as the near Northside, because that's their crime hotspot. You forgot Fountain Square - there's a really cool, old bowling alley there and a roof top bar nearby with a nice view of downtown.

Louisville has a lot of really cool, old neighborhoods and it seems so clean and safe. Along with Bardstown Road, I like St. Matthews. There's another neighborhood - I want to call it Franklinton - that is funky and is lined with restaurants.

Indy hit rock bottom in the early 70's and their response was to build suburbia in the inner city. Blech.

RE: indy or cincy
Indy took this abandoned canal and turned it into something really nice. You can paddle boat on it, jog along side it...it's a nice area.

But instead of developing it like San Antonio, they put suburban-style apartments next to it. Then the back of a state office building. This is the wannabe architect in me, but I get so annoyed every time I go down there. There's another office building whose back faces the canal and the only access to the canal is a small door with a 4x4' porch. You'd think the apartments whose first floor has access to the canal would utilize it, not have office space with blinds drawn. What a waste.

I mean why build this really great thing and then put a bunch of buildings next to it that ignore the super thing you just built?

While I give them credit for even having development in a place where there was decay, I get dismayed when I drive around and see Sharonville everywhere.

I would imagine that if you have a somewhat busy canal area open to the public, the apartment developer might have thought a first floor apartment with a patio, and a door, would have zero privacy.

I was thinking the lower area would either be a common area for the apartment complex or leased out for a restaurant or something. I mean there isn't a bench, tables or anything.

Instead it feels more like a cave. It really is a dead zone. I'm guessing the complex didn't want every Tom, Dick and Harry congregating at the base of its building.

It's kind of ironic, actually. Build a canal for everyone to enjoy then build something that discourages usage of sections. Look, but don't touch.
