Trouble at the Orange Bowl
Apologies if this has been posted already, but since we're talking about the Fiesta:

Complaint to IRS Faults Orange Bowl Committee for Caribbean 'Junket'

"The committee, a tax-exempt charitable organization responsible for the annual Orange Bowl, which took place Monday night in Florida, called the trip "a complimentary getaway" for key individuals in college sports. A former high-ranking official with the Internal Revenue Service, who has filed a complaint with the federal agency alleging various misuses of charitable funds by some bowl committees, calls it "a junket" for insiders."

So the "business strategy" of the BCS bowls seems to be to pay off the politicians and college bigwigs (university Presidents and ADs, conference commissioners) to keep a system that hurts their schools ...

That's a big part of the business strategy of the BCS bowl games, say the authors of "Death to the BCS"-- a quick, entertaining read no matter what one's personal opinion on a possible FBS playoff system, or the present BCS system, might be.

RE: Trouble at the Orange Bowl
The been a part of the entire bowl structure from the beginning. I should know. My father was given a lot of perks at bowl games WVU appeared in for being a member of the press. I'm sure that was a payoff to the writers to keep them from making such things public...

Obviously, they left somebody out...
