One of the scariest days of my life. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim's families today!

Be sure to read about Gayle Dubowski's father, Joe, who is now an NIU student himself. Joe Dubowski- DH article. Chronicle article

Definitely thinking of the families and friends who lost someone. Anniversaries of loss can be a challenge.

Also remembering the response of people that day and in the days that followed. The students who helped students, the nurses who rushed into the hospital to help. The clergy who spent hours in the hospital providing comfort to families and friends of victims. The social workers from around the country, some of whom I'm sure used vacation time, to be on campus to help people out. Heck, even all the little nods NIU people gave each other when we spotted a Huskie on a hat or shirt during the week NIU was closed.

A lot to reflect on, probably going to take some time this afternoon for that.

I too am thinking of the families, friends, and all of Huskie Nation today.
The 5 young lives that were lost that day will not be forgotten.
Prayers for all of them.

I guarantee that they hads a story about it on channel 7 too because I saw one of their trucks headed to DeKalb on my way to work at about 1 pm.

RE: 2/14/08
Daily Herald published lengthy front page cover stories SUN & Monday.

I watched the webcast of Rememberance. Pres Peters is a great writer and presenter. I really liked how he expressed several personal traits of each of the five victims. I never knew that DanP was 6'5" tall and loved so many different sports including rugby.

The event deeply disturbs me & so many of us that words sometimes fail to express all the feelings associated with the tragedy. It's such a never ending and sobering moment in our collective histories. NIU continues to move Forward, Together, Forward. Soon there will be no students on campus who were directly impacted by the infamous day.

Godda wonder how all the wounded recovered and if they returned to NIU and finished school?

Discussion items:

Just pause to think about how many other random shootings have occured across the country since 02/14/08, an infamous Valentine's Day that lives in infamy like another massacre.

> Is the treatment for matters of mental health on campuses in America improved ?

> Has anything really changed the face of American gun violence? Is America and its colleges any more or less safe than three years ago?

>Will you visit Cole Hall and the new Anthropology Museum once reopened?

All indeed are disturbing questions. Making any sense and formulating hope from the tragedy remains an ongoing journey for me.
