RE: Good win for SJU
UC still has some opportunities to make a statement for the NCAA selection committee. But they've got a tough road to hoe now. They let one game slip away that they could little afford to lose. And losing it after having the game in hand is a bitter pill...

kinda like the last game, where we gave it to you? 12 of 26 from the ft line wasn't due to Cincy's defense

You won't get any disagreement from me there.

It just sucks seeing what UC's program has come to. This program has begun to accept mediocrity and it's embarrassing.

This has happened because you are no longer the "IT" in your league, and your President fired one of "THE" coaches.

Marquette is 2-7 in games decided by 5 points or less, they just can't close out against top teams. They do have a relatively light schedule remaining however. If they can't finish 4-2 against this they probably don't deserve a bid.

Unable to close out on the road this season. Had halftime leads on the road against GU, ND, UofL and Vandy. Now MU needs to avoid any hiccups the rest of the way. Winning out at home would go a long way.

Tigeer, according a local sportswriter the way all of this went down, was
that some members of the BOT wanted Huggins gone but they didn't have to guts to do it themselves so when they were interviewing the soon to be new President, Zimpher, one item they told her was that she had to fire Huggins, this was 2003. Of course she didn't have the guts either. She told the AD, Goin, to fire Huggins and he said no. Zimpher, who was job hopping up the ladder, if she had one ounce of ethics should have told the board to F off. Anyway fast forward to 2005, she would not roll over Huggins contract and he could not recruit because other coaches were telling recruits that Huggins was being forced out. Then is August of 2005 all of the crap hit the fan, and UC lost out on 2 recruiting classes etc.

One thing is for sure nobody in a leadership position at UC had the best interests of the fans or the program anywhere near their radar. When Zimpher was Pres at UWGB her BBall coach was Bruce Pearl, who is one of the most unethical coaches on the planet. His grad rates were much worse than UCs. Zimpher whored herself out for the next best job, UC and then bolted to SUNY ASAP. Our current AD, nice guy decent admin guy, but he not a big thinker mover shaker type of guy. He better be on his hands and knees praying for a basketball miracle over the next 6 games, and same for next football season.

Sounds like it was a real mess.

Hope it gets better for you. The BE is dang near impossible to navigate at full strength.

I miss the Bearcats of old that I loved to hate.

Marquette had a chance to do that today at Georgetown (all they were missing was a Top 25 road win) but couldn't get the win.

While not mathematically out of it, I just don't see the Bearcats finishing .500 in conference.

Here's what Lunardi has as of today:
1- Pitt
2- Notre Dame
3- Georgetown
4- UConn, Villanova, UofL
5- Syracuse
6- West Virginia
7- St John's
10- Marquette
11- Cincinnati (Not among the last 4 in)

I don't disagree with this as of today. The key is whether Marquette and Cincinnati can stay in if they continue sustaining losses, especially at home.

St John's keeps rolling, 80-68 in Milwaukee tonight. The Red Storm are near locks and Marquette better be ready to win 4 of 5 or they'll be hosting games in the NIT.

as long as we can avoid an epic collapse against the BE cellar dwellers, we're a lock. If we go 3-2 in our final 5 games and win one game in the BE tourney, i think we'd need to be considered for a 6 seed. Which by the way, is insane to think about. Lavin was supposed to be a sh*tty coach. If this is a bad coach, then i look forward to more bad coaching. I haven't seen a SJU team this confident and move the ball this well, in close to a decade
