Beckman calls out Mark Steyn
Beckman blasts radio host

You know, it WAS JUST AN ADVERTISEMENT.

Not a social commentary or endorsement of any policy, good bad or otherwise. I thought it was a great attempt by Chrysler to rally their brand identity and align themselves with a community that is trying to reinvent itself at the same time as their company.

Nothing more. Steyn must have been low on ideas for his "backfill Rush day".

Quote:Steyn, a conservative commentator filling in for Rush Limbaugh on Monday, said the commercial wrongly placed Detroit in a positive light. "We're now being told that this is the model for America in the 21st century," he said. "If it is, we're all doomed."

Beckmann, who interviewed Steyn during his show today, said he missed the point of the ad and said suggestions that it falsely hid the decay that has gnawed at the city were ridiculous. The goal of the ad, Beckman said, was to sell cars, not tell the world the seemly details of Detroit's problems.

Quote:Steyn criticized Chrysler for spending what he called $9 million of taxpayer money for the ad

I liked the commercial, but I have no problem with this point ^

In another discussion context I'd be inclined to agree, hell, I could even connect the dots and blame Dumbya if need be, but I decided to like the ad and leave it at that. All those thoughts went through my head before I decided I liked the message.
