Home Game For Cuse in Tampa
Literally 80% of the 10,000 fans were for Cuse...so do we add Florida to NY and NJ as Home Games for the Orange?

That is what it is going to be like when BYU plays here in Fort Worth in a few weeks. Texas BYU fans are buying up tickets to watch Jimmer.

RE: Home Game For Cuse in Tampa
I would expect about 1500-2000 Cuse fans to show at TCU if the game is on a weekend. We travel very well to many locations. Most especially where a lot of north-easterners have relocated too.

We do well in NYC, Philly, DC, Boston, Carolinas, ATL and Florida

I'd expect we would travel pretty well in Texas.

Sad, but there are a lot of NY snow-birds in Tampa this time of year. And Syracuse obviously felt right at home while routing my over-matched Bulls.

Syracuse just recruits a much higher calibre of ballplayer than we do.

According to the highlights, looked like a sea of orange in FLA yesterday...as even some USF fans said that Syracuse fans made up to 90% of the crowd at the "home game" in Tampa.

That's impressive.

RE: Home Game For Cuse in Tampa
It was sad to see but it it is reality. Cuse has a lot of fan support in Florida, has great basketball tradition and is once again having a very good season. USF on the other hand has none of the above. I think our program is probably at its lowest point right now.
I believe the Sun Dome renovations and the new practice facility wil help BUT USF basketball needs a few consecutive years of success to bring back support. The treality is that no fan likes to go to games when you know your team will lose 80% of the time and thats where we are right now.
Not sure how much longer Heath will get, Im thinking one more with new facikities but if he cant turn it around there might need to be a change.

Oh- you'll get plenty of help in attendance from the BE. Not only SYR but Louisville, Cincy etc. etc. You'll be bringing some big name programs to town and people should come out- in the beginning. If you win some games they'll hang around forever.

Cuse is the best traveling fan base in basketball...WVU is the best in FB.

I'd bet most of those orange fans clogging the St Pete Times Forum yesterday didn't travel specifically for the game, but were New Yorkers who were already in Tampa for vacation.

That's true, Mark. But there's a hard core of WVU fans that travel for basketball as well. It's not as large of Syracuse's traveling base. But it's just as vocal... 04-cheers

There are a few other programs with a core of fans that travel well. Although support for schools varies by sport...

Actually, wouldn't be surprised if a majority of those Cuse fans LIVED in FLA...as they are all over FLA (especially in Tampa and Southeast FLA) so a short drive to see their team play once a year is a must-road trip for many fellow NYers now living in FLA.

Good point. Forgot about that, LOL.

PS -i wonder why we played this in the SPTF. Must have cost us a pretty penny for rent, and we could have fit 10,000 in the sun dome.

Not only did it not cost us a pretty penny, we made money on it. In order for the Forum to host NCAA tournament games, they have to have a host institution that plays a "home game" on that court. The Forum paid USF to move a game there in order to be able to host NCAA tournament games this March.

And KL is right. There are lots of fans who have moved to Florida from the Northeast as well as the Midwest, and they take advantage and attend their team's games when they're in town. It's another example of how the Big East has a following all the way around the state. Syracuse regularly represented the bulk of the crowds at Miami basketball games as well.

It's the case for many sporting event in the Sun Belt cities. The Rust Belt might be a slow-growth region, but the pro and college fans that move there first generation maintain their loyalties.

Poor Tampa. And they have a Cup, too.

As much as it pains me to say this, but with all due respect Kentucky fans by far are the best traveling fan base ion college basketball. I am not sure Syracuse is even tops in the Big East. But they do travel well.

Who in your opinion is better in the BE for bb?

It was implied...I was talking about the Big East when I mentioned WVU for FB...Louisville travels well in BB but not like the Cuse as we own the I-95 corridor for best traveling fanbase among BE venues. Louisville suffers due to geography.

IMO Mountaineer fans travel better than Card fans for basketball road games. But that's primarily a consequence of West Virginia's long history of having a lousy economy. There are WVU fans all across the nation...

But as for the best traveling basketball fanbase in The BEast, Syracuse is the king...
