MyBB Grading MBB - Game By Game
Here's an attempt to grade the men's basketball team's performance game by game. This could also equate to this fan's satisfaction with the game results. Scale of 1-10 with 1 being very poor/very dissatisfied and 10 being excellent/very satisfied.

Game -- Game Grade / Overall Season Grade Avg

@ VaTech L 60-70 -- 8 / 8
@ ECU L 63-76 -- 4 / 6
v MTSU W 97-90 -- 10 / 7.3
@ Aub W 61-54 -- 10 / 8
v Sam L 56-60 -- 7 / 7.8
LNGWD W 93-77 -- 7 / 7.7
JCSU W 77-64 -- 6 / 7.4
WCU W 73-50 -- 10 / 7.8
@ Upst W 67-60 -- 7 / 7.7
UNCW W 57-56 -- 9 / 7.8
@ ETSU L 59-72 -- 4 / 7.5
JU L 65-57 -- 4 / 7.2
UNF L 55-57 -- 2 / 6.8
KSU W 65-52 -- 5 / 6.6
MER W 80-74 -- 6 / 6.6
@ Bel L 55-90 -- 2 / 6.3
@ Lip L 81-92 -- 4 / 6.2
FGCU L 66-68 -- 1 / 5.9
STE W 85-55 -- 10 / 6.1
@ Lngwd L 62-72 -- 2 / 5.9
@ UNF W 76-66 -- 8 / 6
@ JU L 58-71 -- 6 / 6

RE: Grading MBB - Game By Game
Definitely has been a dishearten and inconstant year. I truly felt like we were past that and were a true contender in the league.

RE: Grading MBB - Game By Game
Had a lot of high hopes for the season. Looks like the guys have just quit. The last performance against Mercer and the loss to FGCU and Longwood is rock bottom. We may not even make the tournament this year if we don't pick it up.

With the players we have why we don't run a fast pace and score 80 points a game is beyond me. Scoring in the 40's against Mercer who does not play defense is pathetic. I plan on attending the last few home games but basically the season is over. If you can't beat Longwood who do you beat in the Big South?

What happened to all of these good recruits we had coming in. I don't care how high they were ranked they have to play with heart. No heart and no hussle out on the court. I guess they like losing. All I hear on the radio broadcasts is we have not seen a player at Campbell that can dunk like that or do this and that. Maybe not but we graduated some winners last year. I don't care if they did not dunk the ball they knew how to win and had some heart and pride. They also knew how to win at home It is one thing to lose to Belmont, Lipscomb, Jacksonville and ETSU. They are all good teams. But to lose to FGCU, N. Florida and be embarassed by Mercer without two of their starters on the court is ridiculous.

Robbie has still not figured out a rotation with them yet this season. I don't have anything good to say so I guess I will just stop right there.

I want to go to the game on Saturday to watch Belmont so I can see how far to advance them in by NCAA brackets. Also want to the Lipscomb the only team to beat Belmont. I guess our guys will be on the court. They better get something figured out. If we play like we did against Mercer Belmont will blow us out of the facility.

You can recruit all the athletic kids you want but if you cant coach your way out of a paper bag it makes no difference. Just ask Ron Zook. Maybe we should recruit MORE JUCO kids.

RE: Grading MBB - Game By Game
I don't understand how or why you follow a tough 2-loss Nashville road trip with a poor performance at home vs lowly Fla Gulf Coast. They played well the next game (Stetson), but then lost at Longwood.

I'm baffled by those last two games in Georgia. The Mercer players obviously showed more heart by the way they played without their two top scorers. Then, in a battle for that 8th tourney seed, CU squandered a nice lead and lost by double digits to Kennesaw.

Whatever goal the team set for themselves this year, it must not have been to finish-off the A-Sun with an "!".

its almost as if they have given up on the ASUN, and thinking about the BS for next yr. Its been mentioned that Coach Steele should be the first go, but i think there is someone else that needs to be gone at the end of this yr.

RE: Grading MBB - Game By Game
I think it is safe to say this team has greatly underachieved. At the beginning of the year I think everyone would agree that it was a safe bet this team would win 17 games. (i am low balling that number too) They have to win out to finish with 17 wins and CU has probably only 3 winnable games left. CU also may not make the tournament. In my opinion 14 wins is pathetic considering we play in the A-Sun where we should have an automatic 10 or 11 wins.

We need to bring in someone who can not only recruit athletes but make guys into better players. I said this in another thread players come here and dont really get much better. What you see as a freshman is what they will be basically as a senior. maybe a little bit more polished.

Basketball is not just about who can recruit the best players its about who can get his team to work well on the court and get players who fit into a system. Gonzaga and Butler do not have top 25 recruiting classes but they can still compete with top 25 teams. They are well coached and their players are turned into better and better players over time.

I don't agree with getting rid of Robbie at this time. Last year we were co-champions of the conference. We started out this year well. He has proven he can win games and his records have gotten better over time until this year. It could have been and should have been a whole lot better. The guys actually played well against Lipscomb last night.

Would I like to see Robbie be more successful - yes. Would I like to see him coach a little harder at times when it looks like he is just watching the game - yes. I think he does get outcoached a lot. Byrd does it all the time (he even outcoached Coach K the last time Belmont played Duke). The Mercer coach did it this year as well.

Steele has no clue. The football team has gotten better but should have produced more wins. We are actually more competetive in football than I thought we would be. He has done a decent job preparing the team but his managment of the game and decision making on the field and that of his assistants is the problem. I think Steele and the whole coaching staff with the exception of Coach O should go. Coach O has done a fine job with the o-line and he gets into the game. If the rest did that and had a clue we would be a .500 or better team.

Steele has done all he can do.

Ninth in the standings tonight, putting CU on the outside looking in as far as the A-Sun tournament goes. Will be an interesting next two weeks.

RE: Grading MBB - Game By Game
I flipped on the beginning of ETSU @ Campbell tonight. They interviewed your coach. The announcer asked him how to get more baskets (in regard to the 39-point result against FGCU). Your coach replied that players were where they wanted them to be, and the shots were "routine". He then said the shots just didn't go in.

Basically I hate hearing this from coaches and it reminds me of previous coaching at Mercer. I can't stand a coach that blames players. He indirectly said his coaching was perfect but the players couldn't execute. 39 points does not mean the shots just wouldn't fall.

I really feel for the players when I hear comments like this. It's just not fair.

I feel for the fans that have to watch the crap. We played like crap the second half of the year. The player basically quit and the team is very split.

Sad situation.

If they can't score more than 39 points in a game - that is pathetic.

No - 39 points means you can't shoot.
