Regardless of Hawk . . .
. . . Tom Izzo is in a world of hurt and is feeling Lupe.

Much angst in and around. Sparta(n) fans don't like the idea of a shrinking empire and return to basic city/state status.

Will a head on pike be requested next?

Sounds rather normal around here.

Hmmmm......quite a difference between a guy who wins championships, or is in the mix having one bad year, to a guy whose teams are constantly mediocre amongst his conference brethren and gets bounced in the first or second round of the MAC tournament.

I'm referring to mopes like you and I who complain about Hawk this and Hawk that. Seems like in the City State of Sparta that mob is beginning to at least talk about assembling.

Seems no different than around here.

I was just saying mopes like us have a point when it comes to Hawk. :) And it would be silly for a mob to assemble in E. Lansing, instead of mopes they would be dopes.

I heard they made a martyr out of one of GC's relatives a few years back. Graham better stay on the WMU beat...just don't go moping around on Lafeyette.

Reading their comments I am confident the MSU mopes would disagree. Because of "their" success their angst is "more" justified.

It's only fair that State basketball take a hit. We've had 3 glorious years of arrogant Walmart Wolverines with their faces shoved into the dirt of failure. Spartan basketball fans are as bad, if not worse.

Nothing like a fans sense of entitlement. If a beast starves, then gets fed regularly, when it begins to starve again, it goes on the hunt faster than it should.

I don't like this topic, but I will bite anyways...

I think we need to focus on the real problem, which is the lack of justice in college basketball. WMU could finish the season, not losing another game, except the MAC Championship game, and WMU still would be on the outside looking in, with regards to an invite to the "Big Dance." Yet, MSU will likely still be invited to the NCAA Tournament, unless they completely implode.

Maybe Izzo should decline the invite, due to his team not being worthy of the invite (like that would ever happen), similar to what some "powerhouse" schools have done when invited to bowl games that they perceive as being beneath them.

I definitely agree with you in that there is injustice in college basketball, especially when it comes to tournament selection. However, even if MSU went 16-13, and WMU won out and lost the MAC championship, regardless of record, I don't think anyone would think that WMU is the better team. They just aren't. So I wouldn't have a problem with MSU going in that scenario. Now, if WMU would've won all but like 2 games in the non conference, go 13-3 in the conference portion, then lose in the MAC championship, we would definitely have a beef.

Western's not going anywhere because they lost to the terrible T's in Toledo, Towson and Troy, and the conference they play in is mediocre and doesn't win non-conference games. Their "best" losses are twenty point beatdowns from Illinois at home and at Utah State. The best non-con win is what, South Dakota State?

Obviously winning a double handful of games against other MAC teams but not finishing the job in Cleveland isn't going to get them in. Nor should it.

RE: Regardless of Hawk . . .
I may be wrong, but didn't we have some "tie-in" with the runner up in the MAC Championship game getting invited to the NIT? Or am I thinking the regular season champion of the MAC (the #1 seed).

Like I said, I may be wrong...I loved it when WMU went to the NIT...loved it more when they went to the NCAA...but post season tournament play is always fun.

Regular season champions that don't qualify for the NCAA's get into the NIT. 7 got in that way last year out of 32.

If there was any question that the players and Izzo aren't on the same page this season

http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/...incart_hbx

Quote:“He just told me he was going to go out there to see what it was like and see what he's going to do,” Green said. “He has the right to go out there. Just an opportunity. Kind of like the opportunity with coach and the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's an opportunity to go see what it's about.”

Since we are prematurely talking about post season play...... Does the CBI and/or CIT still exist? And if so, should the Broncos accept an invite IF (emphasis here) one is offered? I understand CBI costs a fortune for the schools who play in it, I imagine the CIT is a similar story, and the exposure is limited.

P.S anyone who is asking for izzo's head after one mediocre season is a fool

A run of very good seasons tends to breed fools. (See UM football for proof).
