Well, we were already screwed once on this....it was suppose to be against Georgia next year, they backed out and scheduled their Boise game in Georgia Dome.....we were told ESPN brokered that game then were able to get this UNC/UL game together as a replacement....now this....what gives?

Based on existing open dates, October 8th seems possible. Problem is that it had a guaranteed shot at TV on September 3rd. October 8th it won't with many conferences in conference play and not playing FCS schools.
Might be moving to a Thursday night so they can guarantee TV.

RE: UofL fans: Will UNC game date change or be played?
The funny thing is is that I can't say this was unexpected. Given our past history of broken contracts and canceled series (Vandy, Duke, Georgia Tech, etc), I can't say I ever expected to actually play UGA. I figured that game would be indefinitely pushed back or canceled after we played in Athens in 2011. The best part about the entire thing is this snippet from AJC:
ESPN was instrumental, Stokan said, in finding ways to make the pieces fit.
In the end, Georgia traded home-and-home games against Louisville -– a series that did not fit McGarity’s scheduling philosophy – for a high-profile, close-to-home matchup against Boise State.
“We felt like it was important that we be on the national stage,” McGarity said. “We felt it would bring a level of excitement that we really need in our program.”
McGarity noted that the arrangement leaves Georgia with six games in Athens in 2011 but will allow a seventh home game to be added in 2012. He said Georgia is close to a deal with a non-BCS opponent, which he would not name, to play in Athens on the 2012 date that the Bulldogs previously were scheduled to be in Louisville.
Louisville said in a news release that Georgia’s decision came “much to the dismay of the Cardinals.”
“While we certainly would have preferred to keep the series with Georgia, we are pleased to open up the season next year at North Carolina and look forward to hosting them … in 2012,” Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said in the release. “We were thrilled when we secured a series with Georgia five years ago. We were approached to mutually agree to cancel this series, but we declined. Georgia exercised their option to cancel our series.”
So ESPN helped get the series canceled (UGA replaced a home-and-home series with a BCS team with two home games against non-BCS teams), then promised to fill the slot with UNC. And at the end of the day, all us Cards fans are left with is a 600K check, an open slot in schedule, and a missed chance to get the game on TV.

ESPN doesn't deserve our next TV contract. They work against us...
If FOX or Comcast offer something comparable, I hope we tell ESPN to go f#ck themselves...

ESPN is like a woman - can not live with 'em, surely can't live without them.

Can't say where I heard it, but this game is expected to be played. From a good source.

Good news, are you able to share an expected date Matt?

There is a thread on ITV (Louisville's Scout board) posted by a UNC fan that states that the game will be played.

I don't have a date for it. Didn't press either source (got a 2nd confirmation, not the board in Lloyd's post) for a game date since things are in flux.
What I know is that both the ACC and Big East are trying to finalize their schedules so they can release them before the end of Feb. This game, among a few other OOC games, are being slotted to fulfill TV agreements. UofL-UNC was promised TV, and the ACC usually has a Labor Day game that it has to fill. Obviously this game won't be that weekend b/c UNC has another commitment, but there are others.

My opinion, is that I could see ESPN wanting to get a hold of Oklahoma's visit to Florida St. and make that the Labor Day evening game. There's a fairly easy way to do it. Oklahoma's game vs. Tulsa doesn't have a game date right now and I think it could be moved around. Would need to involve Tulsa's home game vs. OK State possibly.

Don't know if that means opponents in some games will be flipped to get things in shape. I'm thinking specifically with games vs. FCS teams since several of those teams have finalized their schedules.

RE: UofL fans: Will UNC game date change or be played?
After what happened to Arizona State this past season, a school is crazy to schedule a team from a lower division at any other time than the very last minute. If another team on your schedule backs out and you're left with TWO 1AA (sorry, I can never remember the new term) teams, you could end up missing out on a bowl game.
When I saw this rumor about not playing UNC, I guess I was secretly hoping to renew our TCU rivalry a year early, since they're looking for opponents. If there's any question, I think we ought to shift our schedule around to do just that.
In the meantime, I'm just thankful that scheduling's going to get a LOT easier with the addition of 2 more teams to the conference.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll have nine in 2012.

I didn't get ahead of myself. I didn't say when it would happen. But the Big East has committed to growing to at least 10.

Agree. ESPN is crapping the Big East...We never get primetime basketball games that much anymore...90% of them are 7:00 tip offs then the ACC or SEC get the 9:00 spot.
