Earth to Mike Brown, Mike Brown are you out there?
If I’m hiring…
January 29th, 2011 | NFL
With NFL teams reshuffling their coaching staffs and some key members in their front offices, I think a few guys should get some attention. If I owned a team I would make sure I had a diverse front office and a good mix of youth and experience. I think that teams should hire young scouts to assist older scouts that may be in place. Older scouts/talent evaluators with more experience can get those reports and double check using their own eyes and use their own connections to make sure that the evaluation of the young scout is a good one. Scouting players today might be a little different than it was 10-15 years ago. Is a GM necessary ? Not really, but I would want it clear that my college scouting and pro scouting are different divisions and they communicate on team needs. I would raid the front offices of a few teams in the NFL that seem to have a good collection of players. Here are a few guys that I would look at…

Floyd Reese- Currently Patriots senior football advisor. Built the Titans most successful teams and now has experience of how the Patriots do business. The Pats have some of the best young talent in football.

Lake Dawson- Experienced talent evaluator working for the Tenn Titans. Title is Director of Pro Personnel. Left the Seahawks after a successful run with the Mike Holmgren staff. When current Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt got the job, he brought Lake with him. Has knowledge of two front offices, former NFL player, knows college and pro scouting.

Elliot Wolf- Young talent evaluator working in for the Green Bay Packers. Title is asst Director of Pro Personnel. Works directly with GM Ted Thompson. Primarily works on the pro scouting side but assists with college scouting. Son of the great Ron Wolf.

Tim Terry- Young talent evaluator working for the Green Bay Packers. Title is asst Director of Pro Personnel. Former NFL player w/Bengals, Chiefs. Scouts NFL, CFL, Arena League for the Packers. Also is an advance scout where his job is to scout the team that is next on Green Bay’s schedule often watching that game in person.

Ray Farmer- Young talent evaluator working for the KC Chiefs. Title is Director of Pro Personnel. Former NFL player w/Eagles. Scouts players in the NFL as well as CFL and other pro leagues. Worked under former Chiefs GM Carl Peterson and now current GM Scott Pioli.

Why would Mike Brown need to read this? None of those positions even exist in the Bengals organizations.

And none of those people are a part of the Brown family.
