What the hell is going on in Iowa?
13 Iowa football players hospitalized

It's pretty scary that a workout can lead to about 10% of the team in the hospital and the university doesn't haven't to justify or explain itself.

You heard it hear first, unless of course it turns out to be baseless.

School sponsored health supplements or a dietary regiem

One would have to think so.. working out alone wouldn't cause these symptoms.

And Kirk ferentz is still on the road recruiting. If I was a parent of one of those players, I would be very upset that he was not there checking in on the players.

Has to hurt recruiting right? Coach sitting in the living room trying to sell Iowa....parent asks "so 12 of your players are in the hospital?"

Some HS team had the same issue. A group of football players ended up in the hospital after a gruelling workout. They were on some supplement. When you don't know the ramifications of what you take, it can be dangerous. Hopefully, Guinness and Smithwicks after my work out does not hurt me.

I can't believe there hasn't been an NCAA investigation into this. A team of players working out does not all get sick with the same symptoms. For Iowa to not say what really happened just seems ridiculous.

It is the supplement. Again, no doctor is monitoring the consumption of these OTC products. Are they all consuming too much? Dehydration? Lots of kids take Creatine and other supplements to build muscle/ aid in recovery. Scary. This might make the government get involved with more regulation of these supplements. Iowa is more visible then other incidents.

RE: What the hell is going on in Iowa?
here is my logical take on it.. .

1) Iowa possible drug problem on football team
2) No practices for a while
3) Coaches decide to lay the hammer down due to #1
4) Players could take it after just coming back to practice

That is my logical reasoning.

Supplements. It is crazy how rampant it is. All the HS football players at Lifetime are taking multiple supplements to bet bigger and stronger. Your kidneys, etc cant process that much crap. Parents need to do a better job of regulating this stuff.

Especially high school kids, that can't be healthy while they are still growing. I'd be concerned if I was a parent and my kid was taking anything beyond basic nutrients.

Your stomach, liver, kidneys etc can't process all that crap. It is an overload. Who knows what long term damage can be done. With no one monitoring the amount being taken and combinations of supplements, kids are doing long term harm to their bodies.

If they would have taken the supplements I do, they would have been in much better shape. Of course, certain body parts may become firm that you would prefer remain flabby during a workout, but what the hell...it's probably just a small inconvenience. Well, maybe it could be a big inconvenience, but just flaunt it and live with it.

Well, I can tell you the root cause, supplements!!! No way 12 players come down with the same issue at the same time from running laps, doing push ups and other strenuous work outs. I am sure they are figuring out what supplement caused this.

Bob... 12 guys at the same time, the same symptoms? Let's be real, it wasn't excessive exercise.

+1

If they are all lineman maybe but bet they play all positions. The activity induced symptons because of things they were taking. Not a coincidence

I have no idea what it was or was not caused by, I was just stating a fact. I tend to not believe in coincidence...something certainly is amiss.
