If Nova says yes, I don't think agendas will collide.
I wouldn't make bold predictions like that. It's more speculation. The BEast could decide to go ahead and increase the membership to 10 in 2012, and then go to 12 whenever 'nova is finally ready to compete, if they decide to upgrade. If 'nova declines the upgrade, The BEast could go ahead and move to 12 teams for 2012...
It's not certain that any number is the correct one at the moment, and until I hear something concrete out of Providence, I'm going to assume nothing...
We will see. I just do not think the Big east will want to cut the pie into more pieces.
That depends on how much pie there is. At the moment our TV contracts suck, partly because of our lack of status among BCS conferences and partly because of our small size. Having only 8 teams gives fewer conference games for TV each weekend. Increasing our size increases the number of potential BEast games for TV. More good teams, emphasis on good, means more exciting football, and that's good for everyone - including TV. If we work it right, it will lead to an increase for everyone...
Agree. The sum of the parts is often worth more than the part individually. Those who say it leads to less per team are just full of it, as are those who say It definitely pays more. No one on this board knows what will make the BE the most $$ as a whole nor as a school.

I know this is just more internet chatter so take it for whatever it is worth....but way back on 12/28....some guy on the Villanova board said he sw his uncle (would never identify who is uncle was) and he said this:
LongIs...ildcat
Wild-Kitten
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw my Uncle again over Christmas and he gave me a few updates. Nothing really more than what Fr. Peter wrote most recently but did mention that the general consensus is still a NO but new studies may be persuading others to have a change of heart. He also confirmed that they will not announce anything official until April.
He says the Big East still plans to add one more next month. They really want a football only school but they also really want central Florida and will most likely extend an invitation to them for all sports.
Then, once they finally get to 10, they will wait for the our decision and act accordingly. He said they have different plans for different scenarios but the first step is getting to 10 with central Florida and the second step is waiting on our decision. Then, it will most likely be Houston as the 12th member for 2015/16 (whenever we start assuming we do) and a championship game in a big market and Yankee Stadium is what is being tossed around right now.
http://villanova.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?...00&style=2
Not saying any of this is true but this seems to follow in line with what Marinnato has been saying lately. Possibly the timetable to add the 10th has moved back to see if there is any fallout in the B12. It seems the opinion about the possibility of Nova moving up has improved quite a bit since December. I don't know how much I would like to see a Championship game in a place like Yankee Stadium, would just assume give another home game to the higher seeded/ranked team.

If ESPN moves even more Big East games to weekday slots now that ESPN lost their CUSA Contract (most of those games took place on Tues, Wed, Friday and Sunday nights), that will mean even fewer games available for Saturday...unless the Big East can jump up to at least 10 football teams...which would give the TV Networks 5 conf games to choose from during most weeks...so even if 1-2 games are played during the week...that will still leave 3-4 conf games to pick from come Sat...with 2 or more probably having some national interest.

The pictures look more like a timeshare rathar than a proper University.
Malls and carnivals? I especially like the dude in the pic with no shirt on and his pants half way down going to class. Nice! Any actual school work being done? Basically Disneyworld U.
Sorry, looks to fake, plastic. It will not stand the test of time.
By the way, non of this stuff matters to the B.E.
T.V. money yo! Not ferriswheels and facades.

Those pictures are of the Athletic Village on game day. There are no classrooms or academic buildings in that section of the campus. Yes, Light up UCF is held during the holiday season and brings the surrounding community onto the campus. It is great fun for the students and families. If you have not been on the campus, which is obvious by your statements, you wouldn't understand.

The "Mall" is not a shopping "Mall". It's a field next to the alumni center called, Memoroy Mall. It's an area that becomes a sea of tents for football games. UCF just use the short term "Mall", when discussing the locataion.
Second...the pictures shown aren't kids walking around going to class. These pics are from the athletic village. The high rises are dorms...not classroom buildings. The athletic village is a section of the UCF campus that is very lively during football and basketball games. The pictures were taken before a football game with fans milling around on a Saturday. Thus you see "no t-shirt" guy. It's hardly plastic, but it is very modern in that area of campus. The rest of the campus is mostly red brick buildings and some really nice newer modern buildings.

Maybe we should have a "Keep Fear Alive/Restore Sanity" rally at UCF?

Its funny and even sad that a Cougar fan could even begin to rip on UCF's beautiful (and new) campus...especially considering what surrounds their own.

"For an athletics program that has lived in the shadow of Florida, Florida State and Miami, the success is instantly gratifying. UCF may be perceived in this state as a notch below those schools, but administrators see a day when that may no longer be the case.
After all, UCF is making a serious play to join an automatic qualifying conference. Its success on the field, facility upgrades and large market make it a more attractive candidate every day. So throw out any misconceptions about UCF.
This is a program just beginning to stretch.
'I hope that we have proved to the nation and proved to our fans and anyone who is looking at our program that now we've gone from the sleeping giant to an up-and-coming program and a program that has a bright future and one that's going to make noise and one we hope that is going to be around for a long time to come in the top 25,' UCF athletic director Keith Tribble says."
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Andrea Adelson a former reporter and beat writer for the Orlando Sentinel? UCF got some free advertising. Must be nice having a home town girl at ESPN singing your praises. You have to keep yourself in front of the BE and not be forgotten. Nothing wrong with that.

Andrea Adelson, Univ of Florida graduate and a HUGE Gator Fan never was the beat writer for UCF and never covered UCF in any sport...as most of her articles were on college football in general online (in her blogs) or other articles written about college sports as a whole.
