I wanted to rush the floor with them, and just start decking some mother sexers. It would have been fun until the part where I would get jumped by a bunch of 2nd graders.

Did Slater talk smack?

Well of course I'm not going to kill myself, that would just be silly.

Honestly, their team and crowd were dead silent until the very end of the first half, until they had a run and brought our lead down to 9. In the second half, a combination Belmont's of poor shooting, bad rolls and tough calls got Lipscomb on a run that they never came down from. We kept it close the whole game, they just had more momentum in the end. They talked some smack and got their crowd pretty hype in the end.

I think the only reason Lipscomb can compete with us is because it's a rivalry game. We are much better than they are, and there's no way the team I saw tonight could beat us on any court besides that dimly lit gym with all the kindergarden kids there. Their fans rushed the court after a regular season A-Sun victory. As the phrase goes, "act like you've been there before."

Belmont needs to just blow teams out of the water from here on out, and then win the A-Sun tournament.

Now I will go puke.

I'm calling it a righteous storm. On the "act like you've been there before," . . . well . . . we never have. Belmont's never been this good, and never embarrassed us on national TV as badly as they did in game 1.

If the formula for a storming is 1) rivalry game, 2) ridiculously-good opponent, and 3) comeback win, we're 3-for-3.

And this wasn't just an "A-Sun regular-season victory." This is Belmont. For most of the students, it's probably the only game they'll see this year. And for most of the alumni, it's the only game that matters.

Of course, the drawback to that is now that we have this win, we can go back to not caring about basketball until next January.

As for the game itself:

The biggest call of the game was yet another no-call on a potential Josh Slater T. He was getting seriously lippy with somebody after picking up his 4th with 9 minutes left. If he gets T'ed there, he's done. And Belmont probably wins.

That's the fourth time this year (that I know of) where a ref has swallowed his whistle on Slater's mouth. That's his Achilles heel, and it's going to get him eventually. That said, I saw this all the time from everybody (students and parents) when I worked at Slater's HS alma mater, so I'm not surprised it has carried over to DLU.

Talk shows and highlight reels will likely be all Hodzic, all the time, but the key to the game was Jordan Burgeson. Him heating up from 3 opened the middle for Hodzic and Brandon Brown.

Speaking of Brown, he may someday be better than Hodzic. He rebounds, plays good defense, and most importantly when he gets the ball down low he has options. He can shoot, make the interior pass, or find the open man for 3. Hodzic's one-trick pony act may be really good, but it is what it is.

And memo to the rest of the league: Hodzic is a better shooter through contact than when he's defended straight-up. If you want to beat him, go easier on him in the low post.

And I know y'all follow Belmont more closely than I do, but it looked to me like for all the talk about Belmont's interchangeable parts, Ian Clark may be a more important part than some of the others. When he got in foul trouble last night, y'all just weren't as dominant as when he was out there and playing freely.

Do y'all have a third option when Hedgepeth gets in foul trouble and Saunders struggles, or vice-versa? You could have used one last night.

All in all, a good game for Lipscomb (and maybe for Belmont too if you subscribe to the "good loss" theory). Likely a job-saver for Scott Sanderson (don't get me started). I'll be paying attention the rest of the way, but for most Lipscomb people basketball season is over now, and it will be remembered as a success.

See you in March.

DadofTwins, I agree with most everything you said about last night's game. The statement quoted above though is really what makes me despise Lipscomb's basketball program and the fans of it even more than I would if you were just our rivals. Given, Belmont has its own struggles gaining the following and fan support that alumni like me and students like I was would like to have. However, Belmont does have a cult following and diehard supporters like me to keep our basketball program from being completely pathetic.

When I am told to calm down at a sporting event by a father of three elementary school students that go to the same school that my college team is playing, that's just plain pathetic. I do not think there is any justification in rushing the court because you beat "your rival", yet 95% of the students on that floor probably don't even realize that their team is crap.

With that said... Yes, we did get beat by a crap team last night. However, if anyone thinks that Lipscomb would beat Belmont in any gym in the country other than Allen Arena, they are very mistaken. Of course I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but it would be very unlikely. Lipscomb has Slater and Hodzic, and that's it. Brandon Barnes will be good, but he's not a real factor this year. Burger Boy had a great night from beyond the arc. However, Lipscomb is as good as they will be in many years to come, and they still aren't very good.

Now I'm as mad as I was last night. I hope we get to see the boys at Loser U in the conference tournament, and give them the beatdown that they deserve.

Unfortunately, Dadoftwins, that is not the forumala for rushing the court. Sorry but Asun regular season game, against an opponent that you have beaten several times in recent years, who isn't ranked in the top 3... who isn't ranked at all, in a game that affects no standings/rankings/really anything -- does not under ANY circumstances merit rushing a court and accepting the $50,000 fine that will undoubtedly be coming your way. Here is an article for you. I usually can't stand Rick Reilly... but this is actually pretty good.

Also, and I have gotten in this discussion with several people now, you post-game theatrics made 1 thing very, very evident: Lipscomb bases the success/failure of their season around the outcome of the Battle of the Blvd. Yes we current and past Belmontians do take a significant amount of pride in these games, but you would never see us rushing the court and celebrating like a bunch of high schoolers. Why? Because the success and failure of our season is based on one thing: Tournament appearances.
