RE: UC @ St. John's
I didn't watch the game (sign of the times?). I could have.

I predicted a win, but had other things to do.

Having not seen it and going strictly by the boxscore, it looks to me like SJ's missed an unusual amount of FT's that they should have made.

Seems to me that UC had no business winning this game.

Good to see Thomas only played 10 mins. Wonder if he even cares?

Typical home cooking. SJU was more aggressive and the officiating did a lot of inconsistent let them play, then call a touch foul. Unfortunately we got a lot of cheapies on us. Luckily they did not shoot well today. A win on the road is a win, plus it was a top 15 rpI win. I'll take it.

can you believe how SAINT JOHNS' guards just hung on ours and nothing called the whole game? home cooking was sure going on out there and we were lucky to pull this one out despite the homer refs.
Sadly, I've grown accustomed to the crappy calls and swallowed whistles on the road in this conference. I expect it anymore. If we ever get a well officiated BE road game it will feel like we are cheating.

That's why I said a week ago that this game scares the crap out of me. They come to play at home.

This will be a big win by the end of the year, we will be in the same tier as them!!!! Good play from JJ,Davis(why doesn't he play more) and Biggie. Why was the ball in Bishop's hands at the point in the last minute of the game, Chuck even commented this was a no-no. No matter what a win away from home is thoroughly enjoyable and I'm heading to the refrigerator for some enjoyment.04-rock02-13-banana04-cheers

UC was #47 before the game. Road win bonus against #15 who had a SOS of 2...it's early but will still be interesting to see how big of a bump we get.

That is now 2 top 25 wins.

I saw this on Lance's blog...

Kansas, San Diego State, BYU, and Purdue combined have ZERO wins against the RPI top 25. We've already got 2 and there are 6 more on the schedule.

RE: UC @ St. John's
Hey all. Really glad for the win! I didn't watch the game but was watching the CBS game tracker and noticed how many/how fast UC was racking up fouls in the first half (although it was nice that they were about even in PF with St. John's in the 2nd half). For those of you who actually watched the game, were the refs being ticky-tak on the road or was UC just playing dumb ball?

St. John's vaunted "defensive pressure" sure looked to me to be lots of no-call contact and slapped arms. Evenly called officiating seems a distant dream.
The SI article talked about the average of home vs road officiating. What about the egregious outliers that the Bearcats seem to suffer, even at home?

Part of the story seems to be how much certain ref crews "like" certain coaches or schools.

Bishop didnt do much on offense but he did play hard defensively. He still adds some leadership to this team. We do need him to get his offense back on track very soon.

Huge Top50 RPI win ON THE ROAD.

Kudos to Yancy for hitting a big shot.

Hats off to Cash who had a rough game until the final 5 minutes or so when he really came on. I hope he carries his play forward, it was a big reason we had a chance for the win. The pg position is huge in this league.

I'm not a fan of the switch of Bishop to point the final couple of minutes. Thankfully Cash was back at point the final time we had the ball.

On to RU.

UC used to really get raped by officiating at home back when Badger and Yates were coaching. Huggins dealt with some at first but eventually he fought and fought and finally got the refs to give us some breaks. I don't know if Mick will ever be able to get that one done. His lookin up at the refs and screaming while adjusting his tie doesn't really shake the refs up, ya know.

And we won.

We have problems. Not going to argue. But this was a big win. Georgetown and Notre Dame both got beat big in NYC. We pulled it out. Hopefully we can build off of it.

What about Dixon Cash Bishup Yancy & Biggie starting?
Yancy could play facing the basket that way.

Twice in one week Curly's team has blown a double-digit lead in the second half. Ouch. ND got their usual home cooking from the refs. They shot 36 FT to Marquette's 17.

Sorry Buzz.
