I think the OP just needs to get out and experience the world a bit more. There are a couple of rough places around UH, but there are some areas not bad...even the rough places around UH's campus aren't scary, they're just run down.

IIRC, at least one side of Georgia Tech would be considered an undesirable place to live. Not every school had the luxury of being built in pristine countryside areas.

Shocker...you can't get from UH to River Oaks in 10 minutes unless it's 3 AM and you run all the lights. I lived in the River Oaks/Greenway Plaza area...it's not far, but it's not 10 minutes either.

Agreed Miami is in a rich suburb but the ghetto is a short drive away. It was a very nice campus when my son went there on a college visit. Miami's main problem is they don't have a FB stadium on said nice campus.

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your facts but those are just made up stories by our AD to distract away from the real deal that is going on with UCF, Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama (football only), Duke (basketball only), Auburn (Cam Newton Only), and Oregon (Cheerleaders only).

I know this thread is about UH and has nothing to do with my house but I thought everyone would like to know about what only affects/interests me.

Louisville and Cincinnati are both near older crime ridden neighborhoods, also. The BYU dude is spaming on, flamming and trolling on Houston. Also, he fails to note BYU has slum ridden, crime invested surrounding it also!

It's not just Cincy, UL, and Houston at that. MANY beautiful universities are located in less than ideal areas. That's not at all a slight against the school itself; just the surrounding area.

The "ghetto" surrounding the University of Houston will nto affect their candidacy.

I thought id warn you guys..but I flew in to SLC airport located near BYU and my buddy took me through their campus and im glad I made it out alive. Why did they build their campus in the most friggin racist part of the country? pretty bad experience. On the flip side Utah has a beautiful campus.

By the way, that Ghetto you refer to produced folks like Mike Singletary, Clyde Drexler, Vince Young and Beyonce to name a few.

I never stated it's even an issue with expansion but with UCF it's a nice area where students have turned suburban/rural neighborhoods into all college neighborhoods like Ashington Park....was just painting a picture that we're not in the middle of urban hustle and bustle like some may assume

Students literally now live 2 miles into what used to be the worst neighborhood in philly... and in only this circumstance this is how far you have to go to find trouble. The last ten years Temple has spent a billion dollars on its campus and it has revieved the surrounding area. You can litterally walk from Center city Philadelphia to Temple without risk of harm and stop at several resturants and bars along the way.
