Women outdrawing the men? Time to step up your game
This was posted on the Louisville board, and I thought it was worth repeating here:

The Louisville women's team attendance is averaging 10,700 a game. In comparison, I checked that against the MENS attendance average in the Big East. Below are the BE mens per game avg thus far:

WVU - 10,000
Pitt - 9,000
UCONN - 9,000
Depaul - 7,600
Notre Dame - 7,000
Villanova - 6,500
Seton Hall - 6,500
Cincynasti - 5,500
St Johns - 5,000
Rutgers - 4,800
South Florida - 3,000 or less

It appears that other than the UofL men's team (21,500), only Georgetown (11,000), Marquette (14,000) and Syracuse average more per game than the Lady Cards.

This came up because the women had a game yesterday that tipped off the same time our Men's team was playing on TV at South Florida, and they still drew over 9,300 fans.

Special Thanks to ULoverUK for this fine piece of data. 04-jawdrop

Extremely impressive. The new KenTacoHut Center must be making a killing for Louisville if the women are drawing that many attendees.

WVU hasn't had any marquee matchups in Morgantown yet either. WVU has played more road games than home games. The Mountaineer attendance average will go up...

I know that the attendence for women's games has been totally unexpected. I think they expected an average attendence of about 5,000 or so, with bumps for UK, UConn, and Tennessee, plus the "Pack the House Game" (every year they sell tickets for $2.00 for one game to try and get a sellout). But no way woudl anyone imagine that the average would be more than what UK draws for their annual game in Louisville.

It has gotten to the point where they are considering moving Women's Vollyeball games there a few times a year if it is available.

USF is avg 3280 which is not good BUT in our state is pretty hard to draw an avg of over 10k, Florida is not a basketball state

Well, the original post said "South Florida - Puhlease." I just thought that was inappropriate, so I guesstimated.

Sorry, don't have the source material. But Providence did average just under 8,300 per game last year.

Sorry for missing that, Providence is averaging right around 5,000 a game.

Our basketball attendance sucks since we have struggled for so long that we many have lost interest. BUT the reality is as I said that even a winning basketball program would probably avg 7-8k. As i said more people in our state are interested in Spring football than basketball.
