How does Courtney compare with Shane at
this point in his career? I contend he's a much better rebounder, as good a slashing type scorer around the basket, not as good from the perimeter, and definitely not as good at the free throw line. Defensively he might be as good, just not as long. If he can somehow learn to shoot free throws, and I've seen him make some nice perimeter shots, he could be just as good by next year as Shane was his senior year.
Of course he won't have Stevie, Fowler, Matt, BP and Mike Smith around to help.04-cheers

Courtney's a nice kid. He plays hard. I'm glad we have him. But he doesn't compare at all to Shane Edwards.

RE: How does Courtney compare with Shane at
Maybe not from a pro potential, but as a college player, I don't think there's that much difference. If you look at the stats, Shane wasn't a dominating scorer or rebounder. Yes he was good, but not great. He wasn't, IMO, nearly as tough as Courtney on the boards. I always saw him as a somewhat soft player. More finnesse than toughness. Would I love to have another like him? Darn right. But I think a comparison can be made. And remember I'm comparing junior year to junior year. Let's give Courtney the rest of this year and next to make an accurate comparison.

That would be my opinion too.

I do think they compare statistically as Jrs, but their is just alot of difference in them athletically. Courtney is a blue collar plugger and Shane was a Thouroghbred athletically.

But he does compare to Richard Hardman, and he was a pretty fair player for us.

That's a pretty good comparison.

I like Courtney a lot, but personally I don't think he could carry Richard Hardman's jock.

I agree, Hardman was a better all around player. However, Courtney is more comparable to him than he is to Shane Edwards.

Well, keep in mind we haven't seen Courtney as a senior yet, either.

That's true.

The similarities to Richard are that both give you everything they've got. They work very hard on the boards. Richard became a fairly decent perimeter shooter. Not 3's but from the free throw line extended. And they were and are both quality young men. I love Courtney's effort and while he doesn't always score a lot of points, he does enough little things to help you win. His Achilles heel is his free throw shooting which I feel can be corrected at some point.

I'm sure it can. The question is will it be before he graduates.

That jock will still weigh the same next year, and he still won't be a Richard Hardman. Just my opinion Pappy. They just don't make many Richard Hardmans.
