UT has method to deal with "ghosts"
AUSTIN, Texas -- Mezzanine-level general admission tickets are now on sale for $7 to Texas Men's Basketball vs. Arkansas on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Benchwarmers programFans may take advantage of the Benchwarmers program at this game. The program works by allowing patrons sitting in the mezzanine the opportunity to move to an empty arena-level seat. Patrons interested in participating in the program should go to sections 60 and 87 during pregame to pick up a wristband (while supplies last). The wristband serves as identification for Benchwarmers to the arena-level ushers, and thus becomes a "ticket" to an empty arena-level seat.
At the first break in the game, an announcement is made for those participating in the program to come down from the mezzanine to "warm" any open seats in the arena. When the ticket holder arrives with the ticket(s) for that seat(s), the Benchwarmer knows their work is done, and can return to their original seat in the mezzanine or find another empty arena seat. For any in-game seat-related questions, always feel free to ask an usher or other event staff.
Seems like a pretty neat idea. I guess Texas expects their fans to stay home and watch the Sugar Bowl. Pretty strange. Isn't Texas a Top 20 team?

Excellent idea. Chris needs to read this. Anytime any of our games are televised, they only show the lower part of the arena, and normally sprarsley occupied. All our SBC teams need to adopt this policy, especially during games that are one TV.

It doesn't seem like a bad idea. But, I assume Texas is only doing this for "no name" opponents that no one cares about. Once they start Big 12 play, against real basketball teams, those seats will likely be occupied. A significant number of our leather seats stay unoccupied for most of our games (except ASU and maybe WKU). I just don't know if its something you want to do every game- pissing off the folks who pay big money and all that. It is the best idea I've seen in awhile. I really like it when the seats around the court are full or, at least, close to it. Maybe it would be worth a try and see how fans react to it.

More obsession with all things Razorback. We'll see a "real" team from the A10 on Wednesday. Bring a pen and paper so you can take notes. I'll have mine. We can compare; it'll be fun..!

Um, I think this may have been intended for another post, Scotto? They were talking about Texas. Although I am tired, and admit I might be missing the subtlety of the comment.

Not too subtle for Scotto.

Now I know why UT was giving away tickets. It took 2 Mouzy...I mean Rotnei "garbage" 3's in the last minute, against Texas walkons, to get the Chickenhawgs to 46 points. And folks complain about our offense. Luckily only about 5 people in the State watched that game.

I have to laugh. You beat me to the "garbage time" baskets by Clarke. Arkansas could have won the game if he had made about 20 more of them.
