Fiesta Bowl: Pretty Good TV Ratings
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut football game against Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on New Years' Day generated a 6.7 rating on ESPN, the highest rating of all programs (broadcast or cable) during the night.

The game had the fourth-highest overnight rating for a college football game in the history of ESPN. ESPN's coverage of The Rose Bowl Game Presented by VIZIO, in which future BIG EAST Conference member TCU defeated Wisconsin 21-19, delivered an 11.7, the highest overnight rating (excluding NFL) for ESPN and for all of cable television on record.

In terms of digital numbers, January 1 saw 134.7 million total minutes of usage to college football content across ESPN.com, ESPN Mobile Web & ScoreCenter App, and ESPN3.com (according to Omniture). That translates to 94,000 users per minute consuming college football content across ESPN's major digital properties. Highlights include ESPN.com's five million visits, 35 million page views and 59.2 million total minutes on Jan.1, increases of 17%, 24% and 31%, respectively from January 1, 2010. Additionally, ESPN Mobile Web generated 8.8 million visits (up 49%), 18.5 million page views (up 41%) and 35.3 million total minutes (up 42%).Lastly, ESPN3.com saw 418,000 unique viewers and 34.6 million total minutes spent with college football games on January 1.

Pretty good? All the headlines about ratings i've seen have said the Fiesta rating was bad, down like 22% from last year and the worst in many years.

RE: Fiesta Bowl: Pretty Good TV Ratings
One good thing Fiesta Bowl had going for it was that this year's Fiesta Bowl was the first one played on New Year's Day since 2007...as the last few games were played on Jan 2nd, Jan 5th and Jan 4th...so being the only game on New Year's Day night should probably help their TV ratings...as last year's Fiesta Bowl didn't even include 1 BCS Team (it was TCU vs Boise in the "We don't have you playing in any of our BCS Bowl Games but you have to put you somewhere" Bowl).

Plus, the Fiesta Bowl had the VERY popular Rose Bowl as their lead in...as the last few years, most of the BCS Bowl Games were shown on FOX...which normally never carries/covers college football.

NOTE: Whoops:

Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl Ratings drop as games are shifted to Cable for first time in 2011
