KSU excessive celebration
All I can say is that it was a cold night, the refs were starting to feel the chill and they did not want to go into overtime.

Its the rule, but I would not have thrown the flag either. I think Cuse would have stopped them anyway but thats a tough time to throw a flag. A UT player did the same thing in their game but wasnt flagged.

Either way I am glad Cuse won.

After every catch, the kid would salute the fans. I'm not sure but I believe he was saluting the Syracuse portion of the crowd. I don't have a problem with the flag because I was rooting for a Syracuse. What I have a problem with is the kid doing it the whole game and nothing happening until the game was on the line.

I agree there, CJ. It's not like the Tennessee QB, after the Vols took the lead near the end of regulation last night. He was saluting UNC fans, and making a spectacle of himself as he walked to the sideline. If you want to talk about a controversial endings, the Tennessee-UNC game had one worth discussing...

Both the Pinstripe & the Music City used Big Ten officials so some consistency would've been nice

Props to ESPN last night that showed MULTIPLE player slashes, salutes and other "ME" celebrations from yesterday bowl games that ALL took place ON the field that were not flagged...but KSU's salute that took place OUT of the end zone (not on the field of play) was flagged.

Best scenario for every HC would tell every player to HAND the ball to the ref...run to their sideline to celebrate with teammates...but even defensive players are allowed to "showboat" after tackles and nothing is generally ever called on them.

Its important that you bring that up and just over a year ago "The U" came out and it showed some of the celebrations that Miami players did (and I imagine other teams too). I think at times some players are getting closer to those celebrations.

And some of these are at the worst time, in terms of the competition of the game. I'm thinking back to Jake Locker underhanding the ball high in the air two years ago vs. BYU, pushing back the game tying extra point back to the 17 yard line. The XP was blocked and BYU won. Was it in violation of the rule as written? Yes. Was it showing up an opponent? No.

If it were me, I'd get rid of the excessive celebration flag. I'm for some good team celebration. Last good team one I remember was The Bob and Weave that the St. Louis Rams had.

Not everyone can be Brian Leonard. He scores his first NFL Touchdown earlier this season and I figure finally he's gonna showboat a little bit right from the excitement. Nope does his standard hand or soft toss the football to the ref and jogs off to the sideline.

it was a terrible call. I was very happy Syracuse ended up winning, but that call was an injustice.

Calls like that will eventually lead to some changes. But God only knows how they'll screw that up - when it happens...
