well...yes and no. You have to remember when Huggs was here we were in the Great Midwest (not a bad little conference sending 4 teams out of 7 one year to the ncaa) and CUSA and so despite both conferences having great teams at the top (UC, UofL, Marquette, Memphis, Charlotte) the bottom was dreadful so Huggs always played a really good OOC schedule against teams like Maryland, Zona, Cal, you name it. As part of the BE we just don't need a bunch of really tough "bcs" games ooc.
Now, having said that, this year's ooc is just horrid...even for the Big East Bearcats and Mick Cronin. Although in his defense he didn't know Oklahoma, Xavier, and Dayton would be so bad this year. Those three are normally pretty good.
Ugh. UC's scheduling is 100% about not being able to get into a free out of town pre-season tournament this season and not having the money to schedule better teams. You schedule IPFW and their $65,000 contract versus Valpraiso and their $135-$140,000 contract. Instead of paying big bucks for a one and done deal with Cleveland State, you reach out to other in-state programs like Miami of Ohio, Toledo, and Wright State for 2-1 deals that give you free games this year.
Don't spin it any other way. UC's schedule is purely the result of economics and one of the tightest budgets in the Big East.

That is true, the economics matter. UC has lost money, compared to the Huggs years, in basketball and scheduling will reflect that. Nonetheless if
Oklahoma, Xavier are top 15 and Dayton is top 30 critics praise the scheduling.

It's not BS at all. The played two decent teams, and a middling A10 team in UMass. The rest of their schedule consists of directional Florida schools that are at the bottom of D-I.

JHG, if you're talking about an expansion candidate school that isn't Temple - it's BS...
