Kinda confused by your post here Walt. First, she didn't say anything about Texas or Augie? Second, I'm no Texas fan (and certainly not an Augie fan, if those even exist), but I don't think your stat is true either. Off the top of my head, in the last few years we've had Duffey, Cingrani, Luetge, Langwell and Bryan Price make their debuts in the majors. You could probably throw Savery in there too. And those last 4 really for just cups of coffee. In the same period, they've had Knebel, Workman, Jungmann, James Russell, and McKirahan make their debuts. Seems about even. Even if you want to go back 10 years to include guys like Niemann, Humber, Aardsma and Geer, they can match with Huston Street, JP Howell, Sam Lecure, etc.

Umm, I mentioned Augie because Stomps mentioned in her original post that the kid was favoring UT over Rice. So, yes, she did mention UT in her original post Second, the point on longevity I interpreted to mean both MLB exposure and arm injuries, and UT has definitely been no better than Rice pitchers in that regard-- either while still in college or after turning pro. BTW, didn't I say in my post that "Augie's record on pitcher longevity is no better, and perhaps worse"? How is that confusing or wrong even based on your evidence?

You did say "Rice has gotten far more pitchers onto MLB rosters than UT" which was where the response was coming from I believe. You know you can scroll up on the page and see what you just posted right?

I do believe we have gotten more pitchers onto MLB rosters over the past 10 years, despite UT landing the more highly regarded recruits. Nothing I said in my post was off base. First I get attacked because what I said was confusing or inaccurate with regards to "longevity"; neither of which was the case. Do you guys simply pile on for the sake of piling on, whether or not there is a basis for it?

Have to side w Walt on this one. Rather than dissect every syllabyl for meaning, I felt he was stating that in terms of the pitch count issue, the OG's track record is certainly no worse than Augie( the kid is leaning towards UT). Both schools get a fair number into the pro's . Let's cut him some slack(but not too often!).

Just a nit (and only half jokingly), but I said pitchers on MLB rosters, and JT Chargois was just recently added to the Twinkies 40-man roster, giving Rice the edge in pitchers (and note I originally said "no worse than UT, and probably better). Also, I don't think I was the only one who interpreted the term, "longevity", to also pertain to injuries...and, again, in this area, our pitchers have fared no worse than UT.

Nice size in that group. I'm especially excited to see the JUCO outfielder from Weatherford who set a team record in RBI for them (68) as a freshman.

There is also a new name (Mackenzie Mueller) who is from Abilene, but who played in the Little League World Series a few years back? Obviously he didn't play for Abilene (at least I don't recall them making any LLWS - maybe he played on one of the Houston-area teams that made it and his family moved out to west Texas later?).

Google to the rescue:

He was a pitcher for the Ramstein AFB's "Kaiserslautern Community All-Star" team that represented Europe in the 2010 LLWS. (They went 0-2 in Williamsport, losing to Puerto Rico, 11-0 (Mackenzie was the losing pitcher: 7 runs/5 earned in 1.2 innings), and to Mexico, 11-2.)

First time I've ever seen a LHP who bats R! Must be some kind of story behind that.

The Met's rookie LHP, Matz, bats right-handed, as well.

Lately, recruits have been using their Rice commitment as a bargaining chip when they really have no intention to go to school.

Huh? Like who? Yes, we lost Garrett a couple years back, and it was a shock given he wasn't drafted until the 8th or 9th round, and received less than $200,000 in bonus money, but I wouldn't say he used us as leverage. Dickey Thom Jr might have, but that was almost 5 years ago already. We lost a couple this past year, but that's part of the gamble when recruiting Top 200 talent. It happens to every top program.

San Jac enters the season as the #3 ranked JUCO in the country; their best ranking in years. According to Kendall, they have multiple studs-- both on the mound and playing the field. I hope one or two have the grades to be recruited by us...
