Winning changes attitudes of players and fans.
The old saying, "succeeds breeds success, failure breeds failure". Win you lose, things are magnified. Coaches are more uptight, players are more uptight, but when you when, everyone sort of begins to expect to win, and play a little looser, which leads to better performances on the court. The players who were here last year went through a miserable season, and it sort of continued at the start of this season, but maybe, and I say maybe, things are starting to turn around.
Our inside play is beginning to take shape. It's pretty obvious Montrelle and Courtney are our two most consistent players. Alex is starting to hit his stride at the 3. And we have a lot of options at the guard spots.
I really believe that the key to our success is our coaches lay back a little during games and let the kids play without being afraid of making a mistake and being pulled out of the game. A player can't be worried about taking an occasional bad shot. If he is, then he's either going to pass up good shots, or be hesitant to take a shot at all. I saw Solo take a quick shot the other night which he missed. Someone else was watching and they said he shot too quick. I disagreed. He had an open look and took the shot. I have always felt we've waited too long to begin our offense and passed up a lot of good shots for what eventually became bad shots at the end of the shot clock. The best shots, IMO, are 3's in transition. Once the other team gets back and set in their defense, it's more difficult to get good shots in 35 seconds. Just my theory. I want to try and score 100 points a game. Wont' make it very often, but we might hit 70 or 80, which is pretty exciting, especially if you can hold the other team to less than you score.
