I'm looking at the women's returnees for next
season and I don't see anyone who can even come close to taking Asriel's place. Do we have a great freshman point guard coming in? Remember Asriel started as a freshman. Coach Foley must have one coming in, because I didn't see anything on the court last night that gave me great hope in that department. Shanika and Chas will also be gone. You can't replace a player like Chas. They don't come around very often. From what Foley said the other day, I think Taylor Ford will play the Shanika role, although players like Shanika don't happen very often either. She's a little warrior.

Inside players. Marian looked better than I've ever seen her last night. She's trimmed her weight down, and looks great. She can run the floor now and can sustain longer minutes. With her and Hannah next year, we could have pretty good play at the 5 position. Hannah needs to work on her hands. She misses a lot of passes and rebounds by not being able to lock the ball down with her hands. But I can see definite progress. She reminds me of Gus Leeper, but she's being forced into action earlier than Gus so she hasn't had time to develop her coordination to where it will be in the future, whereas Gus has the good fortune to be able to develop while playing behind upperclassmen.

You can never tell what next year will bring, but, I'm wondering about next years team. You can safely bet that they have no Chastity Reed waiting in the wings. They don't come along very often. Asriel, Shanika will be very hard to replace. They haven't found a replacement for Kim Sitzmann yet, and I don't see one on campus yet. I believe we'll be alright inside with Marian and Hannah. Our reserves have been very sloppy when they get in the games for wrapup time, and haven't shot very well, but they haven't had much PT either. I'd bet that Foley will put a pretty decent team on the floor. Obviously it won't be the quality of this team.

Nia Gregory had some P/T last night. I suspect she is the heir-apparent. Hard to get P/T when you're behind Asriel.

True, it's hard to get playing time behind most of our starters.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but Nia didn't impress me a lot. I hope she improves a lot, and she'll have to if she's the heir apparent to Asriel. I think Jeanette Marieux will take Kim's role, and I think she'll do well.
Whether or not she'll be the leader that Kim was I don't know, but she shoots the ball pretty well and plays hard defense. I like her for next year.04-cheers

From reading Karl B posts and various online reports it sounds like incoming player Gault will be a good player if she lives up to her potential. Cobbins sounds like a good player too. We also signed another point guard for next season. Next year team will be young but I have no doubt that Foley will have them playing well by the middle of the 2011-12 season.

I saw Gault at Foley's camp this summer and before I knew she was leaning toward UALR my wife and I were both inpressed. I looked at her close to Chas while my wife thought she was close to Shanika. Maybe she is both and is the WN of the Womens team.

If she's as good as either one, she'll be a winner for us.04-cheers

Karl has seen her play, and he seems to be a pretty good judge of basketball talent. I'm counting on her. I really believe that if we're going to really be good next year, some of the incoming freshman are going to have to play and play well. We've had several freshmen that were impact players their freshmen years. We need Gault to be one too.
