UCA's Bought Broadcast
I've been informed that UCA bought the rights to their game at Mizzou from Fox Sports Midwest, then on top of that, paid KATV to broadcast the game. Isn't it swell to have that kind of money to throw around! The problem is that UCA doesn't have that kind of dough, and probably did this with more of its marginally legal financing that it has used in a lot of things up there in the last few years.

You got some bad information. We got 75,000 to play the game. We only had to pay 500 to get channel 7 to pick up the game. Checked it twice, those are the facts. I can't think of any "marginally legal" things that have been financed. I know of one ill-legal thing that was done in our athletic department before our current AD was there and it was one of the things that cost our former President his job. That was the "private money into public money" to pay the football coach an extra 40,000 a year. I will be glad to discuss any of those other issues with you. If I have bad info on the MO game. please let me know it. You are right in that we have zero tolerance for any shenanigans, period!!!!

Thanks for clearing that up. With a 75,000 dollar pay day, I think even a lot more than 500 would have been a worthwhile investment to get it on TV.

While I will take Rush's word for it as what he knows at face value, I find it hard to believe that KATV would broadcast a game during prime time for a mere $500. And I also find it near impossible to believe that Fox Sports Midwest would let them have the feed for free. If this is the case, then UALR should get equal treatment from KATV and have its games that are on TV put on KATV for $500. Our fans for the most part had to go to sports bars to watch our game at ORU. If KATV is willing to put those kind of games on for a mere $500, we should be on local broadcast TV. But I don't believe that was the total cost for a second, no matter who paid it. Rush, somehow I don't believe you have the whole story.

As soon as I saw the post I called Brad Teague. He assured me we only paid 500. I have not seen an invoice but Brad is a straight up guy and he knows that I insist upon the truth, so I am taking his word. That number sounds too good to be true to me as well and when it sounds too good . . . well, you know what that usually means! I think channel 7 thought the mentor/protege angle might draw some interest. The protege needs to do a good job of recruiting!!!!

Rush, if your saying that KATV absorbed the cost and did this as another Chickenhawg suck up deal, then I have no trouble believing it!

Did KATV think like that when Sidney Moncrief began his one season as Trojan coach against Eddie Sutton at Alltel? I don't recall that game being on TV.

Of course not. That one involved the hometown university.

Lord help me.
Well, Scotto and I will split the next game to get it on TV. I have my 250.
I can see the local TV getting behind them and if they do shame on us for letting it happen by not playing them and beating the now.

I guess we could move Joe Kleine up and they'd get behind us. Wait Joe didn't win a national title, just an NBA title. Guess we need to hire Scotty Thurman.
Actually, somebody needs to be talking to Channel 7 now. I'm sure we have a road game that's being shown on TV locally somewhere- I know Denver's games are locally broadcasted, but its likely to late for that. We need to be given the opportunity to have one of our games broadcasted for 500 bucks. Hey, we can just tell Channel 7 Joe will be the coach for that game.
