Leech won on average 1 more game at Texas Tech than Wanny did at Pitt. He wasn't the big time upgrade people thought he was. Plus you add his baggage. I'm not saying Haywood is a great addition either. Only time will tell if Haywood was a homerun or he was a wiffer. Like I said, I wanted Dana who went to WVU. And in all honestly I like he OC from Auburn the most.

Leach wouldn't have a Texas or Oklahoma to contend with in the Big East. The Big 12 South was a tough division when he was at TTU.

animus, I wonder how much of the success at Texas Tech was due to Dana Holgorsen, and how much was due to Mike Leach. I hope Leach does end up at Maryland. It will be fun finding out the answer to that question...

RE: Looks like the Fridge is out at Maryland..
Financially, UMD believes this was their best move. All of UMD's assistant coaches are going to Vandy and the Fridge would need to build a entirely new staff. The assistant coaches at UMD handled the bulk of the recruiting for the Terps so keeping Fridge was not financially feasible for their new AD and for Under Armor's Kevin Plank. Leach has drummed up at lot of attention especially since UMD is playing ECU (filled with former Texas Tech assistant coaches) next week at RFK in front of a nearly sold out stadium. Interesting to say the least. However, the latest name that has been thrown out there has been Randy Edsall, don't shoot the messenger. There has even been some talk of Mike Locksley or even Ty Willingham getting the nod of Leach. Several big Terp alumni are pushing to get either Leach or Edsall who is rumored to be interested while some former players are pushing for Locksley. This will get interesting as I do not think they will land Mike Leach though he is rumored to be attending the Military Bowl next week supporting his former assistants at ECU, ummmm.

Tech's best season under Leach, 11-2 when they beat Texas, was when Holgorsen was in Houston.

Yeah I have heard Randy Edsall is part of the rumor again. LOL. It is almost getting ridiculous he is mentioned with every job opening out there.

I can see Randy thinking about PSU or Michigan. Maryland is not either of these programs. Randy would be making a lateral move at best if that.

Animus, for your sake, I sure hope your AD sees something in Haywood no one else did, and it works out (except for at least one game a year 03-nerner ).

Only if you believe that he isn't throwing his name out there himself. This is the same guy who refused to say that he didn't interview anywhere when committing himself to UConn a couple weeks ago.

Randy flirts. Call it what it is. He committed himself to UConn after the Florida and Miami openings were filled.

Randy is close to another extension. In addition, he wants a raise for his assistant coaches. This could be his way of getting what he wants out of UCONN.

UCONN does not have a history of losing coaches. When our coaches perform, they get paid big time. If Randy deserves a raise, he will get his that will be based on market value.

I doubt he is looking at Maryland. Like I said, if PSU's job opens up, then there is a possibility Randy will leave UCONN. Either way, I think most UCONN fans are ok with it. If Randy stays, it will be great. If he does leave, I have no doubt UCONN will find another good coach.

I thought I saw something on ESPN (one of those messages that runs along the bottom of the screen) that the Fridge is refusing to resign. Didn't anyone else see or hear that?

He's being bought out. There is no resignation.
