The difference between Wanny and Haywood is that Wanny was a great recruiter, so he could win on sheer talent. Haywood has a rep as a lazy recruiter, at best he is an unproven recruiter.

His presser today was good to impressive. I do like his strong ethics for what is right and what is wrong. I think that in itself will do wonders to a team that may have had more than a few prima donnnas who expected to be coddled.
Ah, here it comes. Hands up. How many games have you Pitt guys that are warming up to this hire actually seen this guy coach?

Rhetorical question.

He'll make Wanny look like a great game day coach.

Thank you for hiring him!

Which is why he'll be surrounding himself with great recruiters.

Exactly how many games have YOU seen him coach with the talent on Pitt's roster and not the talent on Miami's roster? Give the guy a chance to prove himself with a little more talent and resources before you crucify him. Then we may crucify him too.

Who knows, he could turn out to be another Butch Jones 05-stirthepot

Now there is someone who sounds like he is being fair, give the guy a chance before hanging him.

Living here in Cincy (and being a guy that went to Miami University for undergrad) I know plenty about this guy. In 4 games watched in person I have seen him call a fake punt from his own 25 in the first quarter. Several other ill advised fake atttempts. Enough lame screen passes on 3rd and long to make your eyes bleed. Draw hand offs up the gut on long yardage. And on and on and on....Oh, and the articles in the Enquirer where he openly conceded recruiting SW Ohio are just outstanding.

Check out the Miami boards from 2-3 months ago. Many wanted him sh!t-canned for continually getting run off the field by the OOC opponents. Check back with me in 2 years when Pitt looks like 5 miles of bad road. Only reason he got the job is he is cheap and he was able to beat a bunch of bottom 10 FBS teams in the dreadful MAC.

Good luck. Going to need it.

Give the guy a chance. Sheesh! He just signed the contract at midnight and had his presser a few hours ago.

Exactly. I don't know if this guy is the answer but we'll find out soon enough.

True enough, dude. He may do okay at Pitt. You never know what the future holds until it arrives...

We might be looking at Wanny 2.0 or worse. He might be good but it is a crap shot at this point. Either way, BE needs some bottom feeders and someone got to be at the bottom in the coming years.

Any of you Pitt fans have an opinion on Phil Bennett, your current DC? He used to coach at TCU then was at Kan. St. then was the HC at SMU. I like Coach Bennett and hope he lands on his feet somewhere if he is not retained at Pitt. He has had some rough breaks in his life including the loss of his first wife to a lightening strike when he was coaching at Kan. St. He's a good guy, I wish him well.

Phil Bennett was a good guy and a straight shooter in his time at Pitt. I too wish him well. The word was he was done after this season no matter what. He still has a house in TX I believe and wanted to get back towards that way.
