Butler
After an amazing year last year and arguably the best title game ive watched except for the outcome, i was wondering if we could expect butler to make a deep run in the tourney this year?

Stevens was crazy to not leave and get paid when he had the chance.

Butler won't win their conference this year. Brad Stevens has to be the dumbest coach ever. His value has slipped back to nothing after being higher than almost any other coach in the nation last March.

One bad year will not ruin Steven's stock. He will still be one of the first candidates anyone talks about for major openings.

And Butler will be fine. It's been a struggle for them finding their offense after replacing their best player, but they still are a really good defensive team. They'll figure things out offensively... win the Horizon and likely be dancing in March.

RE: Butler
In a slightly related way, just read that UC was supposed to be the team to play Duke in NJ this year, but after the finals last year ESPN did the old switcheroo and then cooked up the Okie game as some sort of compensation. Thanks for sticking it to our SOS, oh crappy Farve network.

His value hasn't slipped to nothing. If Cronin goes after this year, Stevens would be at the top of my wish list.

It hasn't slipped to nothing, but it is clearly less than what it was - much less.

I think K#4 is closer on this one - he might have slipped a bit, but not much. Nobody expects any coach to be able to just keep repeating last year's Butler team year after year - especially at a school like Butler. Heck even Roy Williams and NC are struggling and that's as blue blood as it gets.

The only concern with Stevens (and I think it's somewhat fair), is recruiting. His first 3 years at Butler were outstanding but I'm guessing the majority of the meaningful minutes played came from guys he didn't recruit as a HC. If they are down (and "down" is somewhat relative) this year AND next year, I think it becomes more of an issue - subject to a deeper analysis anyway.

But for now, he's still VERY desirable imo. As my posting here over the years shows, I was, am, and expect to remain a Mick fan. But if he were to go for some reason, I agree with K4 - Stevens would probably be my #1 realistic choice for UC (and I'm not even sure it's realistic that we could get him, btw.)

Doubt that he'd take this job. The IU job could be his if Crean struggles.

Also losing Gordon Hayward really hurt. I don't expect them to make a deep run in the tournament.

I'm not as up on recruiting as I used to be, but I believe Crean has some really good classes on the horizon coming in. Better than Cronin's, I'm pretty sure.

I didn't say he'd take the job, just that he'd be at the top of my list. He probably makes as much, or more, at Butler than what we pay Cronin.
