Broyles Award banquet. As you might or might now know, TCU is tearing down part of it's stadium and expanding. The actually blew it up.
Bumpas said he's been around programs where they tore down the goalposts, but never one where they tore down the stadium. Cute line.
He comes across as a real nice down home sort of guy. I'm sure he's tough on his kids, but away from the game he seems like a real calm, friendly person.

The whole TCU to the Big East thing is ridiculous. TCU is certainly a great football team right now. But I remember plenty of times when they were awful. Are they really a school that's going to be a football powerhouse year in and year out? Does the Big East really think adding TCU is going to bring them the Texas market? What percent of folks in Texas give a hoot about TCU (other than when they are having a season like this one)? Will anyone in Texas turn into a Big East game of the week when Syracuse is playing Rutgers or UConn is playing Cincinatti? I don't even want to get into the issue of all TCU's other sports having to fly to the East coast for tennis matches,volleyball games, etc. TCU to the Big 12 (now 10) would make sense. However, I think even Big 12 folks wondered if TCU is really just a flash-in-pan, rather than a big-time athletic program.

They're obviously bigger time in football than Kansas, Kansas State, and maybe a few others. They are located in a huge market, and though I agree that they are not a fit for the Big East, they would be a natural for the Big 12. I would think TCU and Houston would be good additions to the Big 12 if they plan on continuing to have a 12 team league. Or maybe even Rice. They would renew traditional Southwest conference rivalries already in place with Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Love to see the Horned Frogs get into the Big 12. And that could happen in a few years, if not sooner.
